HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS BUSINESS?

My mom, Wanda Dansereau, is a great artist who has worked her art for 60 years; her history is extensive. She is a member of the North Augusta Artist Guild and is a columnist covering the art scene for North Augusta Today . I starting going to meetings when I started making jewelry. I met many great artists who like my mom and I didn't have a place to show their work, except for the occasional art show. So we decided to create a place for all artists to show their work.

STRANGEST CLIENT/INCIDENT: None.

WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT THE BUSINESS: That we are giving so many artists a chance to show and sell their work.

WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE BUSINESS: Having to go to work after being retired and just working at home.

WHY YOUR BUSINESS STANDS OUT: We allow professional artists a chance to show their work without charging a commission. We are basically a nonprofit gallery. We charge rental on the spaces that the artists display their work, and that pays our rent, utilities, security and other operating costs.

ORGANIZATIONS/EVENTS INVOLVED IN: North Augusta Artist Guild

AWARDS: None.

YOUR BEST BUSINESS ADVICE: Always be honest in dealing with the public and especially the artists who have entrusted their art to our care.

WHERE YOU SEE YOUR BUSINESS IN FIVE YEARS/10 YEARS: Becoming a major movement in the arts, especially in the teaching aspect. Perhaps an art institute with many teachers.

MOST IMPORTANT BUSINESS PRINCIPLE: Do your best at any thing you are working for.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN THE BUSINESS: Letting the public know who we are and where we are without a budget allocated for advertisement.

ROLE MODELS/INSPIRATIONS: We started this business with only a unique idea, none we had ever heard of before.
