McMaster's mother dies; campaign idled

COLUMBIA --- Attorney General Henry McMaster canceled campaign plans this week in his run for governor after the death of his mother.

Ida Dargan McMaster died in her sleep at her home Saturday night, Mr. McMaster said. She was 88.

Mr. McMaster had planned this week to make an announcement regarding his plans for the 2010 campaign for governor, followed by a tour of the state.

Two weeks ago, he filed a campaign disclosure form with the South Carolina Ethics Commission that indicates he is running for governor.

Services for his mother are scheduled for Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Columbia.
