Thousands attend rally
ATLANTA --- A few thousand people gathered Saturday in downtown Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park to protest the health care overhaul being sought by the president.
The event, sponsored by the conservative Americans for Prosperity Foundation, was led by FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey, a former House majority leader, and conservative talk radio hosts Joel Aaron and Herman Cain.
"What we have today is an assault on liberty that is larger than anything we have ever seen," Mr. Armey said, eliciting loud cheers from the crowd.
Saturday's event also included Republican candidates for governor: Secretary of State Karen Handel, Sen. Eric Johnson and Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine.
From a stage bearing campaign banners for the three, speakers ridiculed the idea that loud protesters were being paid to attend town hall meetings and encouraged to be disruptive. Mr. Cain said Democrats were characterizing protesters as a "manufactured mob" and a "bunch of crazies."
"Oh yeah, we're crazy," he said. "We are crazy about our liberties, and we are crazy about keeping our choices when it comes to health care."
Lawmaker has calmer town hall
JONESBORO --- U.S. Rep. David Scott, whose confrontation with a health care provider at a town hall meeting earlier this month became a YouTube hit, faced a quieter crowd Saturday morning.
The Democrat fielded dozens of questions from the crowd of about 600 at a Jonesboro high school. There were no major disruptions, but audience members sometimes tried to shout each other down.
A swastika was found painted outside Mr. Scott's Smyrna office Tuesday.
What we have here is some people paid off by the insurance companies stirring up rednecks who use anger instead of rational when thinking.
I see, just because they don't agree with you then they are paid off. If they are, it is just to make it even for the President paying off all those voters during the Presidential elections.
imdstuf -- Your moronic conspiracy theory is indicative of how you and other socialists refuse to acknowledge the foundation of rights in this country.
Fete de compli! We will have health care reform. I can't believe the folks who are protesting aren't fed up with the insurance and drug companies bleeding us dry. If the insurance companies have their way, we will pay the ever rising premiums, copays, exhorbitant drug costs and Never reach our out of pocket limits. By the time you pay your full deductible (if at all), it will be the next fiscal year and time to start all over again.
Health care reform is not the problem Q, it is the proposed legislation. Have you read it? If not, may I recoomend that you do? This bill is more about govn't control in every aspect of your life. Read the bill and then you won't seem to appear as idiotic as the rest of the posters who are blabbing but don't have a clue what's in it!
Stuff, Guess if someone doesn't like prezbp's policies and protest against it, they are paid off? If you really want to see the "bussed in and paid off" watch a ofumbler town hall meeting. I do see he has wised up and drags his teleprompters every where he goes now.
overburdened taxpayer you are a follwer be a leader you
dummie.
Q, you are confusing two separate issues. I can be fed up with being bled dry by insurance companies and still NOT want the healthcare reform as currently proposed. Read it and hopefully you will see the problems with it! Those "for" the current legislation tell us not to worry because it doesn't "say" it is full of gov't control, but since it doesn't say it is "AGAINST" all of that control it leaves the door open. Ambiguity is BAD for ALL of US!!
Redapples, I am not for gov. control either but who controls health care now? Not us. Who is our advocate? Certainly not the insurance companies. I, for one, am not "in love" with my health care plan from my employer. Thank you for the mature dialogue without the name calling.
Ex-Cigna Executive Tells Why He Left Insurance Industry to Champion Uninsured Former PR Chief Says Insurance Companies Up to 'Same Old Tactics' http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Weekend/story?id=8337500&page=1
Well JohnQ who is in control. You clearly state it isn't you, isn't the gov't, not the insurance reps. So who is in charge. I am kinda glad for the Gov't control of the Interstate Highways, Homeland Security, The DOD, The FAA, Food safety, workplace safety, CDC, Medicare, and I could go on and on. What is so frightening to you for the Gov't to regulate Health care and force insurance executives to play in a fair field with individuals.
Where is Barrow hiding?

Posted by imdstuf on Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:42 AM....How about teling us which insurance companies are paying these folks. Hmmmmm didn't think so. Just becaus the DNC, Pilosi and her cabal say so doesn't make it so.
JohnQ, I had just as soon have my insurance bleed me than the federal government.
The problem is some of you hate him because there is a D in front of his name when he shows up on television. If he goes away from the public option instead of praising him for listening to both sides and trying to compromise, you will bash him for holding his ground and say he lost (as if its a wrestling match). Some of you are so brainwashed that if a Republican had come up with this idea you would swear it is great. You can kid yourselves and say you look at the issues, but many of you are lazy and easily played so you go by party lines. I like the health care plan. Now do I like the money he wants to waste on high speed rail? Heck no. That is one of the dumbest ideas I can think of. Who wants to take a train to another city then not have their car there to get them around once there? No one. People did not think ahead on that one.
Speaking of being paid off, it is obvious that BimbObama has paid off the unions who show up to try anintimidate and beat up on the protesters. I call them BimbObama's brown shirts.
How can someone vote for or against something they know nothing about?
Liberty is but happiness in the cradle that does not sleep when rocked but rises to defend its self.
George Custer was warned time and again about harassing the Sioux Indians and after he ran up on them at Little Big Horn. Custer and all his men were killed. An old Sioux woman, carring a buffalo bone needle, walked out to the body of Custer, knelt down next to his body, inserted the needle in one of Custers ears and hammered it in, then she put the needle in his other ear and hammered it in. After doing this she talked into each ear saying "Can you hear now?" This reminds me of todays politicians, all of them, and the President.
Nice manipulation of this thread, AC webmaster. Why don't you show ALL of the earlier posts?
There are many reasons we need health care reform. I would really enjoy not having to pay for expensive insurance which I seriously doubt that some posters here would be able to afford. But to do what the House bill (and Obam) were advocating was just to much of a change and there were too many items up for interpretation. The fact that people like TechLover could interpret the wording one way and be comfortable and other more conservative types, including some of the best minds in the country, interpreted it differently and saw some very serious and alarming provisions proves the point that the House version needed to be rejected as presented.
Lonely wolf, why don't you check out the other thread with the posts you say are missing?
imdstuf: the big O HASN'T READ ONE BILL THAT HE SIGNED! Furthermore, he has already stated he doesn't know everything in the healthcare bill. If you think that is "thinking ahead," you are in for one ..... surprise in the future! I am not making any of this up because the big O is quick to make his statements on TV (which he has come to adore) and in interviews. The big O is the poorest President ever elected to office; I don't think he will go down in history as being well liked either. The man is a fool who needs to be ousted from office and the sooner the better. Where's that IMPEACHMENT Petition!
Yes, President Obama may go down in history not being well liked by a small segment of conservatives and some republican politicians like Broun for example who claims now to have a viable and improved proposed health care plan. Where were these fine health care plans during the Republican reign for eight long years? No such viable health care plan for all Americans was proposed by the Bush administration. I am very confident that the Obama administration will pass a health care plan that the majority of Americans will embrace. If you are an individual who do not want a government ran health care plan , then keep the health care plan that you currently have.
Lorraine, get with proper grammar. Then post.
Next step, learn to understand what the legislation is actually saying. You can do that. That HOUSE bill was not exactly saying people could keep their current plans, if you can think outside the box.
In case you didn't know, Lorraine, that "healthcare bill" is geared to put ALL OTHER INSURANCE COMPANIES OUT OF BUSINESS; once they are gone, then the big O has realized his dream of a ONE-PAYER SYSTEM, and that ONE-PAYER WILL BE THE US GOVT, who will, in turn, decide whether you can have the treatment your physician believes you need. If that bill goes through, I hope your health is in excellant condition, because if it terminal, you will NOT received the treatment you need--and there will be no other place you can go. Also, under the big O's plan is this: ANY PHYSICIAN WHO DOES NOT SIGN UP OR SUBMITT ALL PATIENT INFORMATION WILL BE FINED OVER $250,000 and possibly LOSE HIS/HER LICENSE. As an American, I certainly will NOT 'EMBRACE' THAT PLAN. Obviously, you have NOT READ what that "healthcare plan" says.
As I stated before, a viable health care plan will be passed during the Obama administration. No one will twist your arm to embrace it. I respect your viewpoint. My friends, scare tactics and distortions about the proposed plan will not prevail at the end of the day.
I would agree, now that they are taking the public plan off the table. And actually I don't have a problem with a small public option to take care of uninsured, legal ones, that is. To try to make it the dominant carrier of insurance like the HR 3200 was doing was just plain wrong. Every thing about that plan was leading to Obam's single payer plan. His words, Barney's words. See how stupid Pelosi is. She actually thought that the American people were ready to accept this huge aspect of Socialism. They overestimated the dumbing down of American. It hasn't reached those depths yet.
