Letter to the Editor
President Obama and the left-leaning members of Congress are attempting to make us a socialist society.
There's a fly in the ointment of Obama's agenda, and that fly is us, the politically centrist populace. Obama has expressed a desire that we who disagree with his policies should shut up and let him get on with his agenda. Not very democratic, is he?
As a private citizen, Obama could join his South Chicago Hyde Park socialist, community-organizing friends in the common goal of changing America. That is his inherent right under the U.S. Constitution.
Upon his inauguration as our president and his solemn promise to defend the Constitution of the United States, Obama's inherent rights became somewhat constricted, in that he has to make sure that his actions as president are not in conflict with the Constitution.
Instead, he immediately proceeded with his socialist Chicago Hyde Park agenda, ignoring his moral responsibility to the people and the Constitution. His friend Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela, suppresses dissent by closing radio stations, TV stations and newspapers who disagree with him. Our president's stated desire that those who disagree with his policies should shut up and let him pursue his agenda reveals the same mind-set.
Voting for a more centrist Congress in 2010 might help Obama to understand that America is not Venezuela.
