Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said he plans to redshirt defensive end Kourtnei Brown this fall, giving the junior two more seasons of eligibility with the Tigers.
Clemson has several strong players at Brown's position, including seniors Ricky Sapp and Kevin Alexander and sophomore Da'Quan Bowers .
Swinney said Brown has a chance to be a great player for Clemson and wanted him to have two more seasons to play. However, Swinney said Brown's status could change if the Tigers are hit by injuries along the defensive line.
Brown is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound junior from Charlotte who played 24 games and made 33 tackles the previous two seasons.

Atkins has already been named to the Outland Trophy's preseason watch list.

AUBURN: From Chris Todd to Kodi Burns could have a much different meaning for the Tigers this season.
Burns went to work at receiver as well as the Wildcat quarterback for the Tigers after coaches settled on Todd as the starting quarterback for the season opener against Louisiana Tech.
They alternated at quarterback to start last season and Todd started five games before giving way for the rest of the year to Burns.
Florida: Receiver Paul Wilson 's career is over.
Wilson broke his right foot for the second time in 11 months last week, and coach Urban Meyer said doctors have advised him to give up football.
Wilson had wrist surgery in June 2008 and opened fall practice wearing a cast. He got healthy enough to play in the first two games last season, but then broke his foot and had season-ending surgery in September.
He tried to return to the field last week, but broke his foot Aug. 7.
GLADHANDING: College football teams are planning to start the season off on a courteous note.
As part of a sportsmanship initiative, the American Football Coaches Association and NCAA are encouraging schools to arrange teamwide handshakes on the field before kickoff.
