Barrow conspicuous by his absence

  • Follow Letters

Ed McMahon used to introduce Johnny Carson by saying "Heeeeeere's Johnny!"

Wheeeeeere's John Barrow? We have a congressman, and I don't know where he is!

Does he agree with the Democratic leadership in the House and Senate that calls citizens that disagree with them on the health care plans Nazis, mobs, and un-American?

What does he do to stand up for us? What does he believe?

Also, to this date, I think he has only had one day of visits in his district.

Where's John Barrow?

Go to his web site, Marion.

Go to his web site, Marion. You think he's only had one day of visits in his district? Just 'cause you think it doesn't make it so. Attend one of the MANY public chats he carries out with his constituents all over his district. Get informed. Quit thinking, or letting others think for you, and get to knowing. Quit listening to the lunatic fringes of both parties. Write a letter with thought and clarity. Grow up. Read. Educate yourself. Get over it. Barrow is twice the man with quadruple the sense of say, Paul Broun, who is digging his own grave by pandering to the reactionaries. They're part of a dying breed, remember? Got a hard case of Palinitis, maybe? Think America wants to go back to the stellar leadership provided by the Republicans? Another great letter choice by the Chronicle editorial staff. Just like a well-oiled machine. Your mission seems to be to tell the world what a bunch of ditto-headed hayseeds still reside down heauh.

I know Coach Shaw. He does

I know Coach Shaw. He does think for himself and is a good man. As for John Barrow, I haven't trusted that snake since he ran those ads lying about Max Burns and the Fairtax. He called it the Max Tax and COMPLETELY distorted the truth about the Fairtax just to get elected.

For a Democrat congressman to

For a Democrat congressman to survive in a district this red is a tribute to Barrow's skill and cunning. Mr. Shaw must not have a telephone or he'd be on the robo-call list and would know that there are perhaps too MANY opportunities to meet with John Barrow.

John Barrow is still on vacation. Has been since being elected. Those "undecided voters" did good with this one.

Marion, he's still around, at least till next year, unfortunately. He'll criticize the bill in committee, but will vote for it when it comes to a house vote. Like a lot in congress, he'll hope the people who don't like this healthcare bill will forget he voted for it at next year's elections.

Kinda like Palin does to you

Kinda like Palin does to you right now, Carcraft? An icon of class and leadership? That's the best one I've heard in quite some time. Tell me exactly what Obama has said to denigrate Americans. Oh, and include ALL of any statement you might throw up. Carcraft is but one of the reactionaries who love to repeat this mantra over and over, thinking that by doing so it will make it true. WRibb, you seem a part of the same desperate tea-bagging birther crowd that sees their privileged view of how things should be melting into a much-deserved oblivion. The fair tax baloney is supported by those of your ilk and no others. More tea-bagger clap trap. Again, you're a dying breed but you just can't seem to grasp that fact. Opiner, another well-thought-out post, worthy of this sorry excuse for a newspaper. Southernguy, even this district will eventually join the rest of the country pretty soon, the people who want reform and would like reasoned debate on it, not ridiculously shrill screaming sessions. The days of the reactionaries are over, Chronicle denizens. When you get over it, come on back to the table with something better to say. I doubt it will be anytime soon. Let the shreeks begin!!!

LOBO, unless I'm mistaken, Palin isn't around anymore. Read a newspaper sometime. As far as this district joining the rest of the country, I presume you mean wanting government run healthcare, well, I just saw the latest Rasmussen and Gallup Polls. Guess which side is down.

It seems that the Iraq war

It seems that the Iraq war has been taken off the front burner since Obama took office. It will soon become apparent that those of you who thought all of Amerca's problems could be blamed on the Republicans will see the error of your thinking. Obama has put America deeper in debt in eight months than President Bush did in eight years. Is it 2012 yet?

Where is Barrow? Hiding
Unpublished

Where is Barrow? Hiding somewhere...and why not? Who wants to encounter a bunch of idiots, who think they know the facts but only know bits & pieces of a PROPOSAL. No need to face those fools, if it can be avoided because they will forget soon enough and move on to hunting season and guns. The Congressman should enjoy his vacation and send representatives to these townhall meetings. Its a win-win situation because "we" know that reform is on the way. Much like the Civil Rights Movement, health care reform brings out those great Americans who employ terrorist tactics to make a point--not true debate. And so, Barrow is being smart because who wants to be seen with that kind of ugly American.

Everyone keeps saying Barrow

Everyone keeps saying Barrow is having lots of meetings with the public- where and when is the next one??? There isn't one scheduled, that's the real answer. I called his office last Friday to inquire as to when and where he might hold a town hall meeting or any sort of meeting with the public and was told there were not any scheduled. End of story. As I told the woman on the phone in his office, I guess he's hiding out from the public b/c he knows he can't defend the current healthcare bill... typical politician.

Barrow, like many of the

Barrow, like many of the smart politicians are calling your bluff. You guys don't want to discuss healthcare you want to yell and shout and hope to get on Hannity. Barrow, is offering limited opportunities for that. He however is openly scheduling appointments to meet and discuss the legislation with him personally and to fill out a questionaire on his website. But that not what the motive is for you all. Townhall is the new buzz to get to shout down people.

Two things I took from the

Two things I took from the Arlen Specter townhall. First, a guy do up and actually asked the Senator to introduce legislation so that all bills be written on a "junior high level". Congress is charged with tackling some huge problems and he is worried about keeping them on a junior high level. Says a lot about what he thinks about his fellow republicans. Secondly, the angry 35 yr old woman was on Hannity last night. He asked her what did you think of the senators response to your question. Her answer, I didn't hear it I was to pumped up. My point exactly they don't go there looking for answers they go to hurl talking points and get cheered on.

To his credit, Barrow voted

To his credit, Barrow voted against the House version of this bill. Although I assume that, being a Democrat, he does support healthcare reform and probably will support it in the future. I believe what we are seeing in the town hall meetings is a lot of anger from concerned citizens of the normally silent majority who have all of a sudden raised up an gotten vocal. They scared, not just of healthcare reform, but the direction they perceive this administration is taking the country. If you believe the latest polls, 52% of Americans do not support this measure....this week. And the number grows every week as people find out more about this plan. That is significant. Like it or not, Democrats have to deal with the fact that over half of the country DOES NOT TRUST THE GOVERNMENT TO OPERATE THE ONLY HEALTHCARE AVAILABLE. That is a fact, right or wrong we don't want government controlled healthcare and the Democrats need to address this issue. Go back to the drawing board, take input from the opposition, debate the bill in public, write it in plain language spelling out what we get and how much costs and taxes we will have to pay. Put all the rules in writing and then let's talk.
