Gates is the racist in this incident

  • Follow Letters

After reading Eugene Robinson's commentary Aug. 1 ("Get used to it: Accomplished, 'uppity' minorities will be in your face"), I felt its contents were absurd enough to warrant my own commentary.

Robinson's thoughts are similar to those of others in that they attempt to extrapolate from the Henry Louis Gates/JamesCrowley incident a wider ongoing racial profiling issue. However, Robinson goes one step further by stating this issue is now to be accepted as a result of "accomplished, 'uppity' minorities." He is basically saying the profiling done by Gates is justified because of a power relationship!

My argument is that there is nothing to extrapolate from this incident. And Robinson's reasoning that minorities with academic degrees and other accomplishments can be expected to act like Gates is philistine. In fact, the only thing we should now expect is that Gates, not other minorities, will act like Gates. This issue is about his behavior, and reviewing the past 15 years of Gates' professional life reveals he has the racist component, not Sgt. Crowley.

This also makes the Obama-Crowley-Gates Oktoberfest futile since it likewise is not addressing the issue at hand: Gates.

This guy is easily proven
Unpublished

This guy is easily proven wrong with his foolishness and shallow thinking. He states: "...there is nothing to extrapolate from this incident." Which borders on absolute lunacy. Number one: The officer's written report stated "two black males" but the dispatcher never indicated race in the 911 recording, so where did the officer come up with the information for his report. (documenting a false police report is a seroius violation of sworn oath) This fact completely avoided by the (AWM) media and casual thinkers will make excuses about the perils of policing and how demanding the job is, etc all to distract from the truth. The officer's behavior and his report reflect poor judgement and an arrogance that, for minorities, have proven extremely dangerous in America...to not be capable of "extrapolating" that message for those events is evident that the blinders are shut tight.

Justus, the report was

Justus, the report was written after it was determined by interviewing the witnesses and Gates himself that it was 2 black males and if you had 1/2 of a brain you would figure that out. The media isn't all white but through your racist eyes, maybe that is all you see. The black officer and the hispanic officer also both said that gates was disorderly and his actions warranted arrest but since they don't agree with you, you will simply call them uncle toms and say that they are lyers since they believe in truth, justice and law enforcement. The only arrogance was that of Gates who by his own admission failed to properly provide ID immediately upon request to a law enforcement officer performing his sworn duites. If he has simply be civil, provided ID and a thank you like 99% of Americans would (black or white) that would have been the end of the incident but he chose not to "follow the laws of the man" and be disorderly, arrogant, pull the race card for absolutely no reason and earned a trip to jail. I don't care what your race is, if you act like that towards police anywhere, you most likely will end up in jail and if you are as smart as Gates you certainly know this.

And JUSTUS, you have all this
Unpublished

And JUSTUS, you have all this knowledge about law enforcement by working with what police force? I'll bet you've never been on the receiving end of a one-eyed stare. But the next time your house is being broken into, by whatever race of people, you handle it yourself, since you obviously have no use for the police. Good luck!

TiggerTheTiger, It wasn't

TiggerTheTiger, It wasn't said that he did anything racist during that incident but if you read his teachings, there are clearly comments of hatred towards whites in general. Instead, it was said that he immediately pulled the race card - He said the only reason that the police were there was because he was black. And, only in America would this happen to a black man, etc. all of this was being spewed at the officer without showing his ID and he knew good and well he had just broken into his own house and although legally there, it only makes since that the police showed up and were questioning the situation. You can decide for yourself if he is a racist because I don't know but what I do know and what he didn't dispute is that he immediately pulled the race card and was calling the officer racsit from the begining. Before calling others ignorant, you may wish to at least have a clue as to what you are talking about or learn how to properly read. I did however say he acted arrogant and frankly anyone who acts that way towards police officers trying to do their jobs are arrogant, beligerent and disorderly and generally meet the same fate as Mr. Gates.

justus, if you would take the

justus, if you would take the time to read all the info regarding this incident, you would know that when Sgt Crowley arrived on the scene, the neighbor who called 911 advised Crowley verbally that "two black men entered the residence". That's why Sgt. Crowley wanted to deterrmine if anyone else was in the residence during his questioning of Gates. If the mulatto muslim messiah had not dropped the "stupidly" bomb on T.V., all of this would have been a non-incident. If you want to point the "racist" finger at someone in this incident then aim it directly at "Skip" Gates and Prezbojangles.

Ok sheeple. First of all,

Ok sheeple. First of all, what do you think would have happenned if gates had just shown his ID, and thanked the policeman for checking things out instead of acting like an idiot? Next, do you really think that if someone had called 911 and said 'there are 2 well dressed older white men with a crowbar breaking into my neighbors house", the police would have told them not to worry about it?

Gates may be smart in some

Gates may be smart in some peoples minds but he was stupid to act the way he did. The same thing would have happened no matter what the race of the person when the actions were the same. The President was not smart in letting his mouth overload with his comment. He should have not commented and left it to local enforcement.

Face it Obama getting elected has not helped racial relations any. His quickness to blast the white cop over an issue created by the black professor shows that sitting in church and listening to Reverend wrong actually sunk in.

I do not know Gates, I cannot

I do not know Gates, I cannot say he is a racist, however he is certainly guilty of sterotyping. A white cop shows up to make sure the house isn't being broken into. I am not white. Therefore, the white cop is racist. Seems to be the logic here.

what's wrong with acting like

what's wrong with acting like gates? gates did nothing legally wrong. in fact, he knew and abided by the law while the cop did not. the cop had no right to enter the house. gates had every right to ask for the cop's identification. gates was right. crowley was wrong. and how was crowley offended by gates bringing up racial profiling? didn't he teach on class on it for cops? didn't he know that the things gates complained about are right on? i wonder what exactly he taught in that class.

Justus strikes again! What fantasy world does he live in, anyway? The officer saw the two men, saw that they were black, and wrote a factual report. You just can't make up this stuff that he spouts. "Which borders on absolute lunacy. " Yeppers, now THAT'S true.

ok. so let's just say all

ok. so let's just say all the black guys who get arrested for disorderly conduct are racist. good. that takes care of the problem. the cops are just cracking down on racism. i love how worried some people get about racism at very specific times. like a black man being arrested- he's racist. a latina justice- she's racist. but the rest of the time, racism is totally make believe. makes sense, dorks. and you gotta love these comments- one calls our president a "mulatto." no racism there. wait- maybe i'm racist for finding it gross. i think i get it now!
