Garrett Elementary School pupils have a bit farther to go to get to school for now.
They've moved temporarily from the National Hills area to the old Lake Forest Hills building at 3015 Walton Way while a new Garrett is built on the same location.
Sherrie Midla has had children attend Garrett Elementary since her oldest child attended in 1992. Now, her youngest, Caitlyn, 7, is entering second grade.
She dropped Caitlyn off Friday morning, but is looking forward to the school returning to its original location, which is within walking distance.
Teachers have done their best to maintain the school's cheerful atmosphere despite a temporary change in location.
Melissa Becker decorated the outside of her fifth-grade classroom with paper trees, which was a gateway to her brightly-decorated classroom.
"Pretty soon, there will be tons of animals up there that they've drawn and researched," she said about the future efforts of her pupils. She said the size of the classrooms and the layout of the windows is similar to Garrett's old building, which is located at 1100 Eisenhower Road.
The new state-of-the-art school will be opening in the fall of 2011.
