FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. --- Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White is working out with former UAB teammates in Birmingham, Ala., while holding out for a new contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
White's agent, Jonathan Feinsod, had no comment when asked if his client is close to agreeing on a new deal.
Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff indicated that he is staying in regular contact with Feinsod, but he offered no immediate timetable.
After catching a career-best 88 passes for 1,382 yards and seven touchdowns, White has missed the first four days of training camp.
The Falcons added their 10th receiver Tuesday afternoon when Dicky Lyons of Kentucky signed an undrafted rookie deal.
GIANTS: Seeing a bloody Plaxico Burress with a bullet wound in his leg in a Manhattan nightclub last November, linebacker Antonio Pierce reacted instinctively.
Pierce got Burress into a car, drove him to a hospital and then took the gun that Burress used in accidentally shooting himself back to his home in New Jersey, later arranging to get it back to the wounded wide receiver's home.
Pierce on Tuesday defended his actions and expressed no regrets for helping Burress.
Speaking a day after a grand jury decided not to indict him on charges of carrying Burress' unlicensed firearm in the aftermath of the shooting, Pierce said Tuesday he acted reasonably, responsibly and instinctively in aiding his now former teammate.
CARDINALS: Signed center Melvin Fowler to a one-year contract and placed fullback Justin Green on injured reserve with a knee injury.
The team also released center Donovan Raiola .
CHIEFS: Signed veteran Amani Toomer to a one-year deal, adding experience to a young receiving corps.
Toomer, 34, spent his first 13 season with the New York Giants, catching 668 passes for 9,497 yards and 54 touchdowns. The 34-year-old had 48 catches for 580 yards and four TDs.
CHARGERS: The agent for cornerback Antonio Cromartie confirmed that the team fined his client $2,500 for using Twitter to complain about the food at training camp.
RAVENS: Offensive tackle Adam Terry will be placed on injured reserve because of chronic problems with his right knee that will require further surgery. He started seven games last season.
PACKERS AREN'T RULING OUT VICK
GREEN BAY, Wis. --- The Packers aren't ruling out Michael Vick.
Asked whether Green Bay might be interested in the scandal-tainted quarterback, general manager Ted Thompson didn't rule it out Tuesday.
But that doesn't necessarily mean the Packers are in hot pursuit of Vick. Thompson is notoriously coy about the team's plans, so it wasn't immediately clear whether his comments indicated a sincere and significant level of interest.
"What is the answer that we give to questions like this? We're always looking to improve our team," Thompson said.
Roddy White finally has a decent year and now he wants to break the bank. Show us a little consistency first. In my estimate you owe the Falcons still for the first couple of years when you didn't do anything.
