ATLANTA --- A 20-year-old Atlanta man was charged Tuesday with murder in the shooting death of boxing champion Vernon Forrest, although authorities said they do not believe he was the triggerman.
Demario Ware was also charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery, Atlanta police Lt. Keith Meadows said. Mr. Forrest, a 38-year-old Augusta native, was shot to death July 25 after he chased a man who robbed him of his championship ring and Rolex watch, police said.
Police said Mr. Ware was responsible for the robbery but that they are still looking for the shooter and at least two other suspects.
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported on its Web site Tuesday night that a police spokesman said Mr. Ware turned himself in to the Fulton County District Attorney's office
Mr. Ware is being held in the Fulton County Jail, according to the Atlanta newspaper, and is expected to have a bond hearing today. Police said he had a lawyer but were unsure of a name
Mr. Forrest, who lived in Atlanta, was a member of the 1992 Olympic team along with Oscar De La Hoya.
He later won welterweight and junior middleweight titles and compiled a professional record of 41-3 with 29 knockouts.
In 2002, Mr. Forrest gained notoriety when he became the first boxer to defeat Shane Mosley.
He will start singing.
Another low life cockroach looking for something for nothing and killing his own kind.
yes we can............
what does this murder have to do with that phrase LaTwon....... grow up!!!!
Black on black crime, is this a hate crime? Probably will claim that being suppressed by the white man caused them to do this. This is a tragedy and speaks poorly of the society which we now live.
This has nothing to do with race at all.. Just alot of GHETTO HOOD RATS' kids without any morals trying to get a quick stimulus fix for more big clothes, name brand shoes, and big shirts to wear with their dirty underwear and no belt. This only happen because momma don't care and know she didn't buy it and daddy at the neighbors' house making another goon to bring in to our precious society. I'm sorry, but, I just hate these fools and the police just play with them and don't do nothing...RIP Vernon-he was my classmate and he was a good guy..
"In 2002, Mr. Forrest gained notoriety when he became the first boxer to defeat Shane Mosley." Exactly how do you "gain notoriety" by defeating someone in a fair contest? "Notoriety" is usually reserved for less than savory actions, ala Bonny & Clyde.
