Two people were killed and three injured Sunday in a car crash on U.S. Highway 1 in North Augusta.
The collision happened about 9:10 a.m. in the southbound lane in front of Bob Richards Nissan, said Lt. Tim Pearson of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Anthony L. Williams, 58, of Augusta, was driving a Cadillac north in the southbound lane when he sideswiped a 2008 Dodge pickup, then struck a 2005 Chrysler minivan.
Mr. Williams and a passenger in the minivan, Erma Harron, 76, of Richmond Hill, Ga., died at the scene.
A 36-year-old woman in the Cadillac bailed out before the crash and landed in the asphalt median near Don's Collision Center, Lt. Pearson said.
She was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.
The driver and another passenger in the minivan also were taken to MCG with injuries that weren't life-threatening, Mr. Carlton said.
Lt. Pearson said Public Safety has requested toxicology reports from the coroner's office for its investigation.
The deaths bring the number of traffic fatalities in Aiken County in 2009 to 26, Mr. Carlton said.

Okay PT, everyone cannot wait for your expert car crash opinion.
Colcamp1, you took the words right out of my mouth. What an idiot, however, it is downright comical how she spills out "expert advice" on just about every topic that appears in the paper. Im still waiting on her to solve the Vernon Forrest case since she thinks she is so smart...
Vernon Forrest case will be solved soon enough. Black dude gunned down by a black dude. Happens in ATL every night. Someone will give up the perp before the week is out.
justthefacts, huh? God bless those lives that were lost. Why do you people post something that does not have anything to do with the story?
