AUGUSTA, Ga. - JoAnn Chavous Quattlebaum, 73, wife of Albert B. 'Jim' Quattlebaum, entered into rest Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the residence. Funeral services will be held at Miracle Baptist Church Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Darien Spivey and the Reverend David Shelton officiating. Mrs. Quattlebaum will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Quattlebaum, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, was the daughter of the late John H. and Pauline Roberts Chavous, Sr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Richardson; brother, Hickey Chavous; and grandson, John Garrettt Quattlebaum. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star Richmond Chapter 463. She is a Past Worthy Matron and a Past Grand District Deptuy. Mrs. Quattlebaum was an active member of Miracle Baptist Church where she was the Secretary and member of the Forever Young Sunday School Class. She coordinated the Cooks with Compassion Ministry, and was a member of the choir and the Sassy Sisters Skit Team. She and her husband were leaders of the Joy Club and of the Widows and Widowers Ministry at Miracle Baptist. She and Mr. Quattlebaum hosted a Gospel Sing in their home semi-annually. Other survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Elise Quattlebaum of Augusta; daughters and son-in-law, Julie Quattlebaum of Augusta, and Lynn and Walt Campbell of Evans; brother and sister-in-law, Hobson and Terri Chavous of Evans; and a granddaughter, Bailey Campbell. Pallbearers will be Garrett Fulcher, Clint Meador, Heath Meador, Martin Thompson, Lawson Westerfield and Rick Youngblood. Her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Youth Fund at Miracle Baptist Church, 1308 Hephzibah, McBean Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815.
