Melissa Jeanne Sawyers: Mom, 29, attached a hose to her car's exhaust pipe and ran it into the backseat, police say.

According to a report from the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, Melissa Jeanne Sawyers, 29, of the 400 block of Dove Avenue, taped a garden hose to the exhaust pipe of her car Monday night and ran it into the backseat in an attempt to fill the vehicle with exhaust fumes.

Ms. Sawyers drove to a residence on the 2100 block of Vireo Drive, where witnesses said she told them she and the children would soon be watching down on them.

When asked to explain herself, Ms. Sawyers opened the back door to reveal the garden hose, the police report states. Her children, a girl, 10, and a boy, 7, then ran from the vehicle screaming that their mother was trying to kill them.

Police called to the scene said the children later told them that their mother said they were going to go to sleep and wake up in heaven together.

They also said Ms. Sawyers had driven the car around for a while before stopping at the residence.

Neither Ms. Sawyers nor the children required medical treatment. She was arrested, taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers, then booked at the Aiken jail, the report states.

The charges will be dropped
Unpublished

The charges will be dropped and mental health issues explored along with counseling sessions. The courts will also probably allow her to keep the kids after her treatments.

Thank God, indeed. Drugs or not, this is a very sad woman that reflects the despair of many in our society. This country needs more prayer, compassion, and most of all; God. Take God out of our country and I guarantee you'll see more of this.

I know Melissa and she has a

I know Melissa and she has a lot of drama in her life and losing her job and scared she wouldnt be able to take care of her kids drove her to this. I know it is wrong but fear of the unknow hurts more. With the way things are going in this country with jobs and money issues. I get scared to. But not enough to hurt may family. Melissa didnt want to hurt the kids or herself she was crying out for help and that is why she went to her friend. Someone that is going to kill there kids and self would not have done that if it wasnt a cry. Melissa there are a lot of prayers out there for you

citizen7- People want to

citizen7- People want to blame God for everything. Once it is all said and done, drugs were probably a large part of the problem here. And while compassion is called for in a situation like this, this woman must be made aware that her actions were criminal. God will never be taken out of this country. No matter how much evil goes on around us, God is always ever present. One must take into consideration that a little time and thought had to go into what this woman did. Obviously, wrapping a water hose around a tail pipe with electrical tape is not a spur of the moment decision. Let's thank God that he was at work here though, and the children's lives were spared.

"citizen7- People want to

"citizen7- People want to blame God for everything." Hey Reflection, no one blamed God, the complaint was that we have barred Him from our lives, and this is just one more sign that we should not have done that.

People can bottle things up inside and not let others know what is going on in their mind, and those people are generally the most dangerous. He might have honestly had no idea if she wasn't sharing her feelings and frustrations.

People need to stop blaming

People need to stop blaming the economy or this mythical God thing for their actions. It is called personal responsibility. People are responsible for their actions.

checkitout , She can't handle

checkitout , She can't handle a drink, otherwise she probably wouldn't have done that. She is Wacko and headed in the wrong direction. If a job is the only thing that keeps her kids alive, well what can anybody do about that other than give her a job. It's sad people will fix their problems with death.

I did not see that Citizen 7

I did not see that Citizen 7 was blaming God for anything. Instead as I understood the message to indicate that we NEED God in our lives more than ever now. With the economy, crime, loss of jobs and income and lives without health insurance, retirement, etc., it's no wonder this desperate woman thought death was the only way out for her and her children. Prayer and compassion are called for here, not finger pointing and criticism. We should all turn our lives over the God. Things would improve rapidly if we just trusted in Him. Please don't judge her until you have walked in her shoes. This was a cry for help.

What a horrible situation! I hope that she regrets her decision and begs her kids forgiveness. I also hope that some day her kids will be able to put this incidence behind them and honestly give her that forgiveness.

yeah right! believe that if

yeah right! believe that if you want to. I see people complain about the welfare system. If she needed help, she should have went to the govt. I would rather see her getting my tax dollars, then trying to kill her own kids! Where was the loving husband? If the marriage was solid, she wouldnt have to bottle up her feelings. Its amazing how when a black person does something stupid, they get attacked! or you would hear that theyre not responsible, but now its God this and that! Just remember this post when someone else has problems.
