Hatred, fear of Sarah Palin is irrational

  • Follow Letters

Recently, longtime White House reporter Carl Cannon publicly confessed that the media "took sides, straight and simple" against Gov. Sarah Palin in the 2008 vice presidential race. My reaction to this revelation can be summed up in two words: Well, duh.

Did Mr. Cannon actually think this would surprise anyone? Here's the scoop: Gov. Palin accepted an invitation to run for vice president. She campaigned, she lost and she went home. End of story, right? Wrong. The liberal media has become Sarah Palin's stalker. They hate her.

Hatred stems from fear, and fear stems from threat recognition. Liberals recognize Gov. Palin as a threat, which is why they must do whatever they can to destroy her. There is no other reasonable explanation.

Palin-bashing is also very profitable. Post a nasty blog about her and you'll get thousands of hits. Write an anti-Palin article and your magazine will fly off the shelves. Make perverted jokes about her offspring and your ratings will soar past Conan O'Brien's!

Someone told me, "Well, I hate Sarah Palin because she's stupid." Hating someone because he or she is "stupid" is a stupid reason to hate someone. If Gov. Palin is so "stupid," why waste time on her at all? Don't they have anything better to do?

Regarding Sarah Palin's future plans: Who knows? Who cares? It's nobody's business but hers. She is quitting her job and getting on with her life. And those of us who are not infected with Palin Derangement Syndrome might suggest that all of her detractors get over her, get their own life and get on with it.

Sound like a good plan? Doggone it, you betcha.

Palin connects with hard

Palin connects with hard working American people. (Those of us who saw her barnstorm for Saxby know that first hand. ) Ms. Blanton is correct, the liberals hate her because they fear her.

"Duh" is not a word. The first paragraph speaks to a bias in the media and Palin wasn't given favorable press. True, but she didn't earn it. She is a light weight and not well-learned in the arena of politics. Its that simple and to defend her position is more about sympathy or something. And look at that family. A walking mess of contradictions. Her future is in a reality show or talk show because she is not electable. She knows it and her next move will shatter conservative talking heads and demonstrate how pitiful the party really is. And no one "hates" her 'cause she is kinda funny.

If you are walking through a neighborhood and there are ten chihuahuas in one yard and one growling pitbull in the other, which yard will you be most concerned with? The Democrats and State-run media are the same - they pay attention to the bigger threat and Sarah Palin is their worst nightmare - because she is a common-sense, down-to-earth, effective communicator.

It's ironic that the first half of Justus's post describes to a "T" the person who was recently coronated in Washington DC. But why should we be surprised when we choose our leaders on the basis of style and charisma, rather than substance and character?

She has a base but this lady's negatives are higher than Hillary Clinton's were. Sarah Palin is like Ms South Carolina people make fun of them because of the lack of intelligence.

Here is the problem with the republican't party. Hillary Clinton looses they get Sara Palin to get her voters. BO wins they get Michael Steele. 2004 they send Alan Keys to run against BO. Sotomayer hearing they kept asking her about race and why she didn't vote like the other hispanisc judge. You guys have not clue about minorities. It is not that simple. Also, Just google Sarah Palin's greatest hits or look them up on youtube for a good laugh the saturday morning.

We're not afraid of Palin,

We're not afraid of Palin, letter writer. She is a source of amusement whenever she opens her mouth - and she makes good and darn sure there is "that evil media" right there to capture every bit of her ramblings. Justus4 is right. She is a lightweight, plain and simple, ideally capable of no more than an inane reality show. That the AC and its minions keep the story of this trainwreck perpetuating is just another piece of sad evidence of the mindset of the ever-shrinking base of right-wing zealots. I think it safe to say now that it will never change.

Sarah loves her family. If

Sarah loves her family. If running for VP ignites a firestorm of criticism from the liberal media, then, to protect your family by leaving politics - except for the speaking circuit - is a great idea. Alaska has a capable new Governor with conservative policies, so she has not hurt the state. It is a great time to go fishing and spend more time with the family. She will make more money for less time spent speaking to thousands who want to hear her ideas. This will also test the waters for 2012. It sounds like she has her act together. She is definitely not a lightweight!

Nothing is more powerful than

Nothing is more powerful than a good self delusion.

It is impossible to convince a right-wing conservative that there could be anything more to the situation than some blind fear of Sarah Palin and what she could do to the left-wing liberal base. That delusion would explain everything, if only it were just that simple. Ms Palin seems like a nice enough person but there is ample evidence of something else. Maybe she just doesn't have the chops to stand on the international stage and lead the free world in a responsible manner. Her international experience is having Russia across the strait. The ethics complaints against her started long before she was considered for national office, not just afterward. Having someone like that in charge of the still-most powerful country in the world is something to fear.

This isn't an indictment of the irrationality or stupidity of the Right. It's a simple explanation of interpersonal and social dynamics. The Left has plenty of examples of the same thing. What concerns me is that this irrationality is what we accept as meaningful political dialogue. Maybe meaningful political dialogue is not what this forum is about, though.

drcptsr73, Palin HAS no

drcptsr73, Palin HAS no ideas...or, at least, no ideas that aren't convoluted and thoroughly uninformed by history, reality, and political thought. Putting your kids front and center to pander to the WT vote is not a very good way to protect them. She did not leave office for her kids, she left because she couldn't take the heat (she is very unpopular in Alaska, even among Republicans) Finally, we Democrats aren't afraid of her--quite the contrary! as lobosolo notes, she's a hoot. On the other hand, her popularity with wingers IS scary, because it's frightening to think so many people could be so shallow and uninformed.

Tigger, there is no need for JBP to "dispute" it...Palin povides the evidence every time she opens her piehole. It is a FACT that she is inarticulate, misuses words, employs hopelessly muddled syntax, and rarely says anything intelligible. What she DOES do is punch the wingers' buttons like a timeclock...and she gets paid handsomely for it.

Shes not polished enough, and she needs a more professional hair cut for the position she has held in office. I'm sure she is a very nice lady, and all, and she has beautiful hair. Someone needs to give her some strong professional advice on her mannerisms and style.

Still no "meat"....just more stabs from the left. Why do you defend the likes of Obama when he makes stupid statements, but are so venomous when Palin does the same? Have you ever heard Obama without his teleprompter? He ALMOST makes Bush sound like a genius...... and there are people in all 57 states that would agree.

JUSTUS, how do you earn "favorable press?" I thought the press was supposed to report the news, not be partial. Obama didn't earn it, but he sure got it. Thanks for admitting that. It must have escaped that old "non-minority media" you're always spouting about.

ldsmith, Palin has no work

ldsmith, Palin has no work ethic. She quits everything she does when the going gets tough. Her character and values are questionable (who else would have the, um, nerve to bill her state for time spent in her own home?). She makes rape victims pay for their own rape kits and doesn't support abortion for victims of rape and incest. Nice. She deliberately whipped up right-wing lunatic hatred during the campaign to the detriment of our country and McCain's efforts. Yeah, she's attractive, kind of...until she opens her ignorant harridan's mouth.

I'm simply astounded that *anyone* would take a person of such limited depth seriously for that incredibly important post. I'm surprised at you... Perhaps I shouldn't be.

I'm more surprised at John McCain. I used to have respect for his judgement. What the heck happened there?? Did he just flake out that afternoon?
