We don't need this kind of change

  • Follow Letters

The people said "We want change" and "We will vote ourselves a new leader," his name being Obama.

What the people did not see is that we have been having change since Franklin Roosevelt. The change has been minute over the years until Lyndon Johnson revived Herbert Hoover's "chicken in every pot."

If there is one thing I have learned in 73 years, it is that you will not get something for nothing; sooner or later you will pay for it, in some way. We started on our downslide with FDR, but it was at such a slow pace we did not notice. Every year we would lose a little more of our freedom to our government and special interests.

As the years progressed we lived in a state of apathy, then along came LBJ and the "chicken in every pot" paid for by the taxpayer; you got a chicken whether you contributed or not. During the next few years the government and special interests (crooks) decided they wanted more power and control over the people, so they introduced the people to pork -- and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

We now have a president who is bent on destroying this once-great country. We have a chance in 2010 to try to put this nation back on the track to God, country and man. Just remember when you look in the mirror every morning you are looking at part of the problem or part of the solution. Which will you be? ...

I do not know about you, but I have had about all the change I want.

Harry Gilmore Jr.

Lincolnton

I didnt vote for this

I didnt vote for this "change" and certainly will never vote for anyone just to "make history" and I think that is the only reason Obama ever got office! Its sad when you vote to make a historic moment, but even more sad when you dont pay attention to the consequences to such acts

This guy passed over the
Unpublished

This guy passed over the Civil Rights Movement in his review of history which historicially, can be argued to be the most significant set of events in the US, in the last century, but the writer remembers phrases 'bout chickens in pots. And betcha during that difficult and necessary historical era, his view of the world was flawed then, much like his LTE today. And if he thinks this is all the CHANGE he can stand, wait 'till those Reparations draft bills are uncovered.

YOu're right about getting

YOu're right about getting something for nothing, Mr. Gilmore... which the corporations, lobbyists, and financial industry have been getting away with for far too long. When you said that Pres. Obama is "bent on destroying this once-great country" you tipped your hand. Time to shuffle off, sir...

Hey JUSTUS, guess who voted
Unpublished

Hey JUSTUS, guess who voted against the Civil Rights Act. Try Al Gore Sr., Richard Russell, Herman Talmadge, and every southern senator at the time. Know what they had in common? THEY WERE ALL DEMOCRATS! And Mr. Gilmore is absolutely right. There is no free lunch. Somebody has to pay for it. Many of the pack backing Obama and his "redistribution of wealth" are betting that it won't be them, but the taxpayers. But 2010 is just around the corner, and according to the latest polls, "change" is coming again.

Obama is the greatest most

Obama is the greatest most effective leader ever. He has done the impossible he has destroyed America in six months. I didn't think it was possible to do it. You people are a joke this country was heading in the wrong direction since Clinton's impeachment when he lost focus. Bush/Cheney did the lion's share of the damage. After 8 yrs of Bush/Cheney you want us to believe in 6 months Obama has ruined America after centuries. Even if you have Obama statements like that put you on a level with the birthers.

Apparently concernednative

Apparently concernednative and HootFot agree with you LadyCisback. More socialism and more Marxism is exactly the "change" so many "hope" for. Unfortunately, it's exactly what will destroy this country. Maybe the people that leave their socialist countries all over the world to come to America are sending a message. I doubt it's , "become socialist so I'll feel at home".

justus, "Reparations" is all ready being paid out by having that Mulatto Muslim Messiah in the White House, along with his free-loading First Mammy-in-law czar. What more reparations than that could you ever want, Cuz?

I see all the bloods are sticking by their man the messiah this morning. The more bad news that comes out against him the tighter the circle. Thats all right though as they are becoming the true minorty in this country now as the mass is awakening. Aprroval numbers are numbers are now down to Jimmy Carter levels.....And that health care joke of a bill I don't want to even get started on.

What freedoms have you lost?

What freedoms have you lost? That is the question I ask of this fellow. The argument begins by pointing out that he is being taxed more for increasing public services but leaps to the summary that he has lost freedoms. The author is correct that we the people are the government and that those we gripe about are merely representatives, but the rest of the argument is just a grumpy old man who has nothing else to do.

Once again, jackfruit drops

Once again, jackfruit drops the angry white man phrase. *Shakes my Head*...By the way jackfruit and AAqueen, is Alan Keyes an angry black man because he disagrees with the president's policies? AAqueen, if you are referring to 55 F-100's comment being racist, I would agree with you. However, can you and Fruitbasket explain why a person is racist for hating the policies of the president?

Harry; What about the eight

Harry; What about the eight years we had with George Bush? If you people belive that President Obama, put this country in the shape it is in now, in six months, then you will belive that we do not have two wars going on now!!!If things get worse, just chalk it up as trying to get things back in shape, after eight years of George Bush!!!!!!

Funny how if a white person

Funny how if a white person disagrees with Obama's policies, that white person is somehow "racist". What is the definition of racist? Definition: a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others. How does a white person's disagreement with Obama's policies make that person think he/she is superior to him because of his race? We're talking about policies and politics here...not the color of one's skin.

The word racism has become

The word racism has become just that - a word. Some use it for everything so it has lost the meaning it may have had. When someone can't debate or discuss, they use the word racism. We now have the prezbho that is suppose to be the most unifying and transparent. Look what we have now; some calling others racist with every sentence. NO disagreeing words can be spoken without being deemed racist. Every word has a new meaning and it's racist. Look what we've ended up with, a country more divided than ever.

carcraft, how long have you

carcraft, how long have you been paying into social security. How long have you been giving out your ssn to get a bank account. AAQueen, I think you are on to something. These people are angry now with things they have been doing their entire adults lives. I guess Bush waived carcrafts payments to ssn. I was working in banking afte 9/11 and Bush made it more difficult to open bank accounts and easier to track your money. So once again AAQueen you are on to something. The only thing that has changed is our president's skin color.

sunnyday, that arguement has

sunnyday, that arguement has been posted on here numerous times but of course if you are white and disagree with our presidents policies and the way he's running the country it can be for no other reason "according to the black folk on here" than you are a racist and upset because a black man is finally President. (Give me a break! That excuse is so worn out). It's the only defense they can come up with because they don't have anything else to back up there support for President Obama's policies.

Here's why reparations will

Here's why reparations will never pass. There was only a few slave states and in those states, only 10% of the people owned slaves. There is no way that the taxpayers in all the other states are going to pay for something that ended over 130 years ago, and that involved only a tiny fraction of people- and in a situation where everyone involved is long since dead. Probate laws say that when someone dies, a claimant has one year to file a claim against their estate. If they haven't filed in one year, then they cannot make a claim. And before they pay slave reparations, first we need to compensate all the Indians and Hispanics that had their land stolen from them.

*SHRUGS* just so many angry white men and women, look at the birthers NUTCASES. All I see on TV, and hear on radio or see online are angry white people, and as far as Alan Keyes OMG look at him he's one crying in the wilderness oh to be accepted, and I think he wishes he was sitting in Obamas place that's the bulk of his anger.

Dims love to say the "the

Dims love to say the "the last 8 years". Hey 1941, for the first six years of Bush's admin, the economy grew by leaps and bounds. There is no disputing that fact! Guess who came into power in the house and senate in 06. DIMS. Things quickly went into the toilet thereafter. I along with other conservatives were not happy at all about Bush's LIBERAL spending. Those tea parties that you and many LIBS made fun of were also directed at the previous administrations spending. Obama has just turned the spending up several notches along with trying to socialize Healthcare. What is so irritating is the his disciples will never ever admit one fault, lie or any bad decision Obama has made. They are simply SHeep.

Hey, sunnyday and

Hey, sunnyday and InChristLove, funny how when a white person AGREES with Obama, he or she is suddenly called "a blood" or a racist. As if the only reason someone would have voted for Obama is his skin color! Unbelievable. I agree with most of his policies. I strongly disagreed with most of McCain's policies (not to mention his lack of judgement in choosing Palin). I STILL agree with most of Obama's policies. Every president has a honeymoon period of some sort and it's true that his is just about over, but that doesn't mean that his support has dropped to "Jimmy Carter levels", as someone said. Get your facts straight and stop race-baiting every other minute.

The American voter, like our

The American voter, like our school system, has finally been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. They are not smart enough to understand the issues, examine a candidates history, listen to what he says, and envision what he will do as president. With the mentality of today's voters all a candidate needs is a couple of catchy 3 to 5 word phrases that the stupid electorate can manage to remember. You know, like "Yes We Can" or "Change You Can Believe In". The problem with those phrases is that the electorate never hears the rest of the sentence. We all know there is a problem with complete sentences nowadays. They heard "Yes we can". The complete sentence was "Yes we can socialize this country". They heard "Change you can believe in". The complete sentence was "Change you can believe in when you can't get a doctor's appointment or afford to heat your house". Don't tell the stupid electorate the whole story. Just give them a 5 word max catchy phrase. That's all they can handle. I do hope that you 10% of crossover voters who voted for communism live long enough to apologize to your great grandkids. With Obama/Pelosi healthcare, you probably won't.
