SRS job fair draws thousands of applicants

What a joke!!! Over 40,000 applications have been received for 3000 jobs with more to come. They are hiring folks with little or no experience for jobs at an aging nuclear facility where experience is the key!!!! They don't want experience they want bodies to show the job shops are fulfilling their quota's. People being hired for very low wages where it will take 6 months to a year of just getting familiar with the facilities make me uneasy, beside the less they pay the "temporary" employees the more the job shop companies get for themselves. They may be biting off more than they can chew.......

They won't hire anyone! The liquid waste contractor doesn't have any money and over 1000 workers there are getting let go. It would be wise for the M&O contractor to pickup the workers being let go from liquid waste. Of course they are over paid - maybe better to hire the cheap workers.

The workers being hired won't be going near any nuclear facilities or any other facilities. Most will be painting guard rails, weed whacking, digging holes, filling holes, scraping paint, etc. just to spend Obama's (Actually the Chinese) stimulus money. It'll be like a job corps for the unemployable, unskilled workers of the CSRA.

Why not just give them a free block of cheese.. would be much cheaper.

Looking at the photos of these job applicants.. most of them asre dressed in street clothes. Many are even wearing ball caps, shorts, tshirts, etc. Wow what a great way to make a good first impression. I mean if you aren't motivated enough to atleast dress appropriately for a job fair then why should a potential employer think you would be motivated to work?

zigzag, hate to bust your bubble,but these new hires are going to dis-mantling the old reactors, chemical separations buildings,etc. They are hiring low-wage radiation sponges, and placing the $80-$100 an hour job with their old buddys, who are drawing two pensions already! This is not hearsay, I am on the site and see it every day. It really helps if you are recently retired, and have RING to bump, along with the KNUCKLE SQUEEZE handshake.

The fellow walking down the aisle in a nice suite caught my eye as I opened the paper this morning. Quite a contrast to his fellow job seekers. I hope he gets hired, just for style points.

It is obvious some of you don't even have a clue. I was recently rehired under ARRA funds. I had to pass DOE core test in order to even be considered for employment. I have a degree in science and a Certificate in Industrial Processing. I am Hazmat & CPR qualified. I have several years in my field. So ZigZag & obkad, skilled experienced workers are being hired. I am here to ensure that other workers are not being used as "radiation sponges." (for dwb619) Not everyone being hired is here to tear facilities down. They have hired management, industrial hygiene, scientist, and qualified trainers. All you people complaining better remember one thing...without this plant providing the jobs, many of the local businesses wouldn't be here and I bet some of you wouldn't have jobs then! What is being done out here is necessary to ensure future missions which ensure future economic well-being for SC and GA, so instead of complaining, you ought to be glad Federal money is staying here...after all, you live here, you work here too, so the state economy does affect you too!! Also, I am getting paid pretty dang good and I didn't have any buddies to hire me, just the right skills!!
