A RAVE TO the heroic young man, John Demons, who pulled the woman from the wrecked car. Also, a rant to all those useless bureaucrats who tried to bring the possibility of lawsuits and litigation into what was a noble deed.
SEPARATE FROM Rants and Raves there should be a "My Tax Dollars At Work" area where we can report good and bad examples of our government employees working and helping better our lives. For example, I recently saw a county dump truck (big gas user) with a driver and a man in the truck bed. The truck was stopping at all the road signs. The man in the back would lean out and wash the sign with a long brush, then sit down, and the truck would move to the next sign. Should tight tax dollars be used to do what nature can take care of?
RANT TO THE people who say "love it or leave it" when folks make points about our economy or government. This country wasn't built by blind obedience but by people who engaged in public debate. If "love it or leave" is your best argument for our future, just put your head back in the sand.
GOD BLESS Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten for assuming the responsibility of burying indigent persons for free when their known family members refuse to take responsibility for their funerals. I know of a recent case in which the family refused any responsibility. This person lived outside Richmond County and her county of residence refused to handle the burial. What a professional and caring person Mr. Tuten is, and I wish there were more people like him.
I SAID in this paper about four years ago that when and if this war in Iraq ever ends all we will have to show is the loss of brave soldiers' lives and billions of dollars. This country cannot win or lose wars based on religion or tribal conflict. We just never needed to be there.
A RANT TO the person who stole my purse from my car at Diamond Lakes Regional Park. I hope you enjoyed the three transactions you made on my card before I canceled it. (I know where you went, we will catch you.) And I do hope you enjoyed the Bible you stole as well.
THIS IS FOR the people who called tattoos on a woman "tramp stamps." I have two tattoos, one of which my husband picked out, and at no time did I have any of our friends say anything bad about them, just that they are not for them. By the way, I am a grandmother of three months.
FARMERS BRIDGE Road in Richmond County is supposed to be a two-lane road. However, the pavement is breaking away, and this road is in such disrepair that it will soon be one-lane. This road is heavily traveled, and there will soon be a serious accident. The Burke County section is in much better condition. Why is that?
