At home with: Chris and Richard Price

When Chris and Richard Price moved to the Augusta area two years ago from Kansas City, Kan., their priority was to find a home zoned for a great school for their daughter Taylor.

They got that, and more when they found a house in Highgrove in Evans. It had an open floor plan and a half-acre lot and was on a quiet cul-de-sac. Taylor, 15, attends Greenbrier High School.

"We definitely wanted a homeowner's association and a clubhouse," Mrs. Price said.

They found Highgrove by word of mouth -- friends recommended it. The line of trees seen as they drive in gives it a "homey feel." The biggest selling point, she said, was the kitchen. The large, open room has ample cabinets and counter space; there's an island and a separate wet bar and wine cooler.

"Whenever you have company, no matter what, the gathering point seems to be the kitchen," Mrs. Price said.

She decorates in neutrals with a splash of color. The fireplace was renovated with stack bricks. The upstairs bonus room gave a spot for the Kansas transplants to put the games and furniture that were in the basement of their former home.
