Jackson memorial overglorified death

  • Follow Letters

The death of Michael Jackson should have reminded us that death is not a gift, and to die is not a miracle. Yet, people acted as though his death was a gift and a miracle.

First, the corpse of Michael Jackson was placed in a gold coffin costing thousands of dollars. Then his coffin was transported in a police-escorted motorcade of luxurious Rolls Royces and Land Rovers. Next, there was an extravagant memorial service with a corpse as the center of attention. Finally, the city of Los Angeles spent more than $1 million to provide security for the spectacle. All this for a corpse -- while precious, innocent children go homeless and are dying of starvation.

Life is the gift and birth is the miracle. Therefore, let us focus our energy and resources on sustaining life, not glorifying death.

Kevin Palmer

boggles the mind, doesn't it,

boggles the mind, doesn't it, kevin? this latest piece of insanity from la-la-land is proof positive that the media is responsible for a great deal of idiocy in this country and needs to get a grip upon its little ole self. better yet, we, the people, need to do it for them by refusing to buy into their garbage: don't watch it, buy it, listen to it, etc. you hit them in the wallet, it'll get 'em every time.

Gosh Kevin, when you put it

Gosh Kevin, when you put it that way,it seems all funerals and memorials are a waste and frivolous. The only difference is the degree. I'm sure all the people with a family member on the obit page are sooooooo happy with your letter.

Each day organizations are
Unpublished

Each day organizations are begging for money to house and feed innocent children. At the same moment millions of dollars are being spent catering to a corpse. The money is available. Children should not be starving to death. Think, think , think! Some of these traditions just don't make any sense and must be disgarded. Custom does not make it right. How about loving the homeless and hungry children more than senseless tradition and customer. Don't sit in a expensive funeral and pretend that you love God knowing that children who are made in God's image are starving to death because you love the spectacle of catering to a corpse.

First of all Mr. Palmer as a

First of all Mr. Palmer as a repub I am sure you believe in the free market and MJ and his family earned their money and can spend it as they see fit. Secondly, I am sure the Jackson's provided for MJ's and the family's security. The security of the general public is not that of private citizens it is the responsibility of the municipality. I am sure MJ has brought a lot of money into LA over his lifetime and paid millions in taxes.

MJ gave more than anyone else

MJ gave more than anyone else in the world to charities so I'm sure he fed, clothed and helped quite a few homeless and sick children. He earned that beautiful send off!!! If you didn't like it Kevin Palmer then why did you watch or listen to any of it???

Appeasement of the community

Appeasement of the community that had they not been happy with the size and content of the homecomming celebration of MJ, would have burned down many more millions of dollars worth of property in LA. It is just like welfare, we pay certain segments of the population ( both black and white ) enough money to keep the majority of them from rampaging the streets. When they range farther out into normal society to pray on providers the police attempt to catch them and slow down crime against producers. When the number of predators out in regualr society gets too high to be controled by police, welfare payments go up to drive the predators back into their zones.

You people refuse to think.
Unpublished

You people refuse to think. What send off. When Michael breathed his last breath that was it. He was gone that moment. He was not waiting around for an extragent funeral. The funeral was for the people who refuse to deal with the finality of death and pretend the dead are listening. It's also an opportunity for the funeral directors to make a dollar. Michael should have received that while he was alive to enjoy and appreciate it. Why don't you people use your freaking brain.
