Georgia Tech will begin selling single-game tickets this morning

Georgia Tech is putting single-game tickets to its first five home games on sale this week.

The only way fans can buy tickets to Georgia Tech's final home game against Georgia is to buy season tickets.

Single-game tickets to Georgia Tech's home games against Jack-sonville State, Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest go on sale this morning.

Prices for the Sept. 5 home opener against Jacksonville State start at $25. Prices for single-game tickets for the Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest games start at $50.

Season tickets are $275; other fees are necessary for certain seats.

FLORIDA STATE: Coach Bobby Bowden is holding out hope that he won't be knocked out of the chase to become major college football's winningest coach.

The university is appealing NCAA sanctions that would force the team to vacate 14 wins because of an academic cheating scandal. That would almost certainly move Bowden out of range to catch Penn State's Joe Paterno . Paterno has 383 wins, one more than Bowden.

The 79-year-old Bowden spoke Tuesday alongside sons Tommy , Terry and Jeff as part of a fundraising event for University of North Alabama athletics. Terry has returned to the Division II program after a decade-long hiatus from coaching.

Paterno said earlier this week he didn't think it was fair for the NCAA to take the wins away from the elder Bowden.

TENNESSEE: Receiver Austin Rogers has torn a knee ligament and will miss the 2009 season.

Head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh says Rogers tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Friday and will undergo reconstruction surgery in the coming weeks.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior from Nashville, Tenn., had his best season as a sophomore, starting all 14 games in 2007 and finishing second on the team with 624 yards on 56 catches and four touchdowns. In 2008 among a crowded corps of receivers, he caught 14 passes for 180 yards.

Rogers' brother, Zach , is set to join the Volunteers this year as a freshman receiver.

MINNESOTA: Lost two key players for next season when coach Tim Brewster announced that safety Tramaine Brock and star recruit Hasan Lipscomb will not play.

Brock started all 13 games last season after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He finished third on the team with 73 tackles and also had an interception.

Brock left school for academic reasons in January, and Brewster said then he expected the hard hitter to return in time to play this fall. But he has been unable to improve his academic standing enough to become eligible to return.

Kim Royston , who sat out last season after transferring from Wisconsin, will likely fill the void.

Academic issues also will keep Lipscomb, a highly regarded running back from Houston, from playing. He scored 41 touchdowns in the past two seasons for Cypress Ridge High School and was expected to compete for major playing time. Now he will spend next season at a junior college.

NCAA: Rowan University athletic director Joy Solomen has been selected to chair the NCAA Division III Football Committee. She is the first woman to hold the position.

Solomen was chosen by the members of the committee and was approved by the NCAA Championships Committee.

The football committee is responsible for evaluating teams throughout the season, assisting with the selection of teams and the creation of the national championship bracket and assigning crews of officials to work playoff games.

Just My Opinion

I honestly don't understand the math in what Georgia Tech is doing about the selling of tickets to the Georgia game. If only season ticket holders can purchase tickets to that game, are they saying that season ticket holders can buy EXTRA tickets to that game, which would be above the number of season tickets that they have? If that's the case, I still don't understand their reasoning because the Georgia game is one of the only games they have that normally sells out! Even in that small stadium, they rarely have sell outs because the type of students that Tech attracts is not usually a college football fan...some are, but most aren't. I see what Coach Johnson is doing and he's telling the admin not to sell all those tickets to the Georgia fans, in order to keep the stadium atmosphere on gameday more pro-Tech. I understand that.
