AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. John Boyd Adams, 87, of Augusta, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009. Mr. Adams is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ernestine Sprouse Adams. Funeral services will be held, 11 o'clock, Monday morning, July 13, 2009 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel with Rev. Fred Heard officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Adams, Jonathan Adams, Carlo "Beau" Bono III, Scott Zimmerman, Ryan Brown, Jay Johnson, Paul Smith and J. C. Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mize Walters Sunday School Class. Mr. Adams was a man of tremendous Christian faith who loved his God, his wife, his family and his church. Mr. Adams was a faithful and devoted member of 56 years at Mize Memorial United Methodist Church where he held many offices and a variety of roles. Mr. Adams taught the Junior Boys Sunday School Class and the Howell Bible Class for many years. He was a member of Mize Walters Sunday School Class, Sunrisers Seniors Group and United Methodist Mens Club. Mr. Adams was a World War II Navy Veteran who served his country with pride. He was the first carpenter on staff of the Medical College of Georgia where he was later promoted to Maintenance Supervisor. Mr. Adams retired in 1981 after 25 years of dedicated service. Mr. Adams is survived by his three sons, Steve (Sandra) Adams, Mark (Wanda) Adams and Bryan (Teena) Adams all of Augusta; one sister, Belle Sivell of Greenwood, SC; eight grandchildren, Audra Bono, Amber Zimmerman, Jeremy Adams, Jonathan Adams, Melanie Johnson, Sarah Adams, Wendy Brown and Robin Smith; three precious great - grandchildren, Maddie Bono, Riley Bono and Henry Brown. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
