Coverage of former deputy's death was mistreatment

  • Follow Letters

The accident that killed Lindon Haworth Jr. is an absolute tragedy.

Your staff writer should be encouraged to return to school to learn the art of respect, courtesy and compassion when he wrote about this accident ("Former deputy dies in wreck," June 29).

This staff writer is more intent on mentioning an unfortunate occurrence that happened in June of last year -- and of which Mr. Haworth was found not guilty. That was important!

That this gentleman put his life on the line for his country as a deputy for Richmond County for 12 years, and a decorated veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Purple Heart in 2004 -- all this was mentioned at the very bottom of the story, as a matter of fact the final sentence in the story.

This so-called journalist needs to go back to school or get his money back. Such an insult to a human being -- and on top of it all a human being that had just been killed in an accident -- is inexcusable!

Yes, Mr. Haworth was found not guilty by the court of law. But in the court of public opinion, you will always be referred to as "the person who got away." Look at the Michael Jackson's saga.

What would one expect from the Augusta Chronicle. I long for the day when I hear that they have closed for good. It's coming.

1677 only a heartless person would say something like "closed for good" Do you wish to see over 3,000 employees lose there job company wide you flipping idiot. If the Chronicle shuts down that means everything within Morris would shut down. As a 27 year employee I still have a house to pay for you heartless SOB.

Whether they agree with every story written, most cherish the availability of local and national news, community events, obituaries, classified listings, sports info, a place to send an opinion, read sales flyers, advertise a yard sale, and much more ...whether read online, in their driveway, or at newsstands. TV and radio broadcasts cannot afford to cover or provide daily what the Chronicle does.

Could anyone really wish the CSRA not have such a local resource?

1. 1677, if you long for the day the Augusta Chronicle is closed for good, why are you reading, and commenting on their content? 2. storiesihaveread, Augusta will never allow Mr. Morris' newspaper empire to fail. They will surely find the money to prop him up. After all, we taxpayers did build him two hotels. Consider trying not to use profanity to make your point, it would be more effective. As to the death of Mr. Hayworth it was very sad, but there us surely more to the story that we are not being told?

E2432, I didn't know Billy owned two hotels. Which ones and where can I see his name on the deed?

corgimom

The hotel on Riverwalk, I think, is part of his holdings. I don't think it's in his name but in the name of one of his corporations.

Jacko a little late on this one but if you know "Billy" which, since you call him by first name you MUST, then you would know all about what he owns!!
