Comments from our readers:

MAYBE IF MARK SANFORD had not been so busy running around with his Argentine mistress, there would still be jobs left for workers in South Carolina. This wealthy, pampered playboy took a great state's economy and ran it into the ground with his absurd policies and hands-off-the-wheel governing style.

SANFORD, WHATEVER you do, please don't open your mouth to say another word. Simply resign.

GOV. MARK SANFORD did very wrong by having a girlfriend in Argentina, but he should not step down. He apologized and said he was truly sorry. You let Clinton stay in the White House. Leave Sanford alone.

MARK SANFORD reimbursed South Carolina for one leg of his South American trip in 2008. Rants were posted here about his use of taxpayer dollars for his jaunts to see his honey. What about the more than $250,000 our dear president spent to take his honey on a New York City weekend, all while he and his cronies are slamming corporate execs for using corporate jets?

EMORY UNIVERSITY got a $900,000 grant from a foundation to "create a master's program in development practice." What on earth is "development practice?" Surely, it means something, but what?

PEOPLE TRYING to leave the Augusta Mall wouldn't end up in the middle of the intersection if the idiots going straight on Wrightsboro Road wouldn't run their yellow and red lights trying to squeeze through, thereby leaving no room for the cars leaving the mall. I have sat through five or six light changes trying to get out of the mall because only one or two cars can get through during a light cycle.

RAVES FOR the traffic engineering in Augusta and Richmond County and "smart" traffic lights. No, I don't drive Washington Road, but to and from Fort Gordon is good.

MANY THANKS to the person who left a note on my windshield at Wal-Mart on Washington Road in Evans, telling me I had a tire going flat.

DEAR SHERIFF STRENGTH: Please support the volunteers who work to clean up Augusta. Fine litterbugs the maximum amount and find them often. More surveillance video cameras would be helpful.

AUGUSTA'S MOST eligible bachelor and bachelorette. Spare me, please.

DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT director says a short trolley system is "an investment, not an expenditure." How do you make an investment without spending?

I'D LIKE to thank the young man who pushed my car when I broke down at Ronald Reagan Drive at Washington Road. My wife and I were stuck in the car. I'm 70 years old and with a back problem, and my wife isn't a lot better.
