Soldier found slain; son discovered unharmed

SAVANNAH --- A soldier from Hunter Army Airfield was found dead on Savannah's Hutchinson Island not long before his 1-year-old child was found unharmed in an abandoned car seat several miles away, police say.

Police realized 21-year-old Necco McCrawl's car and child were missing quickly after his body was found about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on a dirt road on the Savannah River island. The child was found in the car seat in Garden City and turned over to the mother.

On Friday, authorities were still searching for Mr. McCrawl's 2002 Cadillac Deville. They believe he knew the killer.

Last of vehicles pulled from collapsed deck

ATLANTA --- The last of the vehicles have been removed from the collapsed parking deck in midtown Atlanta.

Harry Conley, the president and CEO of Fifth Street Management Company, says nearly 700 cars have been taken from the Centergy deck, with 45 damaged and unusable. Mr. Conley says a few of the cars have not been claimed yet.

Investigators might not know for weeks what caused part of the deck to collapse. No one was injured in Monday's incident.

Pair of nurse sharks set loose in Atlantic

SAVANNAH --- Two nurse sharks at the University of Georgia aquarium on Skidaway Island have been given a spacious home: the Atlantic Ocean.

Aquarium staffers released the two -- Hoover and a newer nurse shark they call Hoover's girlfriend -- about six miles east of Ossabaw Island at an artificial reef Thursday.

Hoover is still a juvenile, but he and his girlfriend had outgrown their 1,600-gallon tank on Skidaway and attempts to find them a home at the Charleston and Georgia aquariums failed.

The sharks can grow to 10 feet long and weigh as much as 250 pounds.
