AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Nancy C. Childs, of Cornell Drive, entered into rest Monday, June 29, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Sharon Childs Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden. She was a native of Richmond County, Ga. and worked as the Medical Office Assistant to Dr. Pierce G. Blitch for more than 30 years. After retirement she was an active AARP volunteer serving the local Girl Scout Council, the Georgia Department of Labor, and the Augusta Mini Theater. She was an active member of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church for 60 years and served in various capacities including the Women's Home & Overseas Missionary Society. She was active in her community as a member of the Glendalle Neighborhood Association and the Thursday Ladies Cocial Club. Survivors are one sister, Minnie L. Curry; one son, David (Marilyn) Childs; four daughters, Rev. Sharon (Leonard) Caldwell, Dr. Bonnie (Hubert) Harris, Vicki (Cedric) Johnson, all of Augusta, and Min. Linda (Craig) Martin, Seagoville, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
