AUGUSTA, Ga. - Donna Lee Allen Smith, age 58, born in Malborough, Mass., passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Trinity Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents Ronald & Phyllis Allen and stepmother Loretta Allen. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with Pastor Herman Bing officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Survivors are a daughter, Shawna Lee (Chuck) Smith and grandson Cody of Louisville, KY, a son Christopher Smith and granddaughter Kalli of Albuquerque, NM; four brothers, Bill (Chelia) Thorpe, Donald (Mary) Thorpe of Worcester, MA; Ricky (Rosemary) Allen of CT, Jeffrey Allen, NY; three sisters; Patricia Michaels, CT, Dorothy (Chris) Steele of Kingman, AZ and Tracey Allen, NY. She also leaves six nephews; Tyler, George, Vallie-Joe, Vincent, Michael and Andrew; one niece, Mary Kate. Donna leaves many friends and a special thanks to Debi, Jane, Julie, Hazel, Bev, Cass, Peg & Jackie for their help during her illness. Her closest & dearest friend, companion and caregiver was Pat Scoggins. Thanks also to Dr. Hudson, Augusta Oncology & Cancer Treatment Center, Philadelphia for their care & compassion and also to Trinity Hospice and Dr. Tara Kattine. Donna moved from Massachusetts to Georgia with her children in 1979. She joined the Army Reserve, 806th Medical Co., in January 1980 and retired as SFC in December 2001. She received awards: ARCOM/ARCAM (40LC)/ AAM (40LC)/NDSM/ AFRM (2X) Bronze/ NPDR (2)/ASR and ARCOTR. She had memberships in Women on Wheels, SEIU, Brothers of Third Wheel, and was a Notary Public. Donna loved to Fish and ride her Trike. She retired from Gracewood State Hospital in November 2008 with 25 years of service. Pallbearers will be: Ken Carter, Patrick Carter, Charlie Carter, Larry Miller, and Chris Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be members of WOW (Women on Wheels).
