Fort Gordon confirms fourth case of H1N1 flu

Fort Gordon reported its fourth confirmed case of the novel influenza A H1N1, but officials said Tuesday that none of the patients is linked.

An infection from the new virus was confirmed Monday in a 21-year-old relative of a person stationed at the post. The woman was seen at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center on June 19 and was sent to her home on post and has fully recovered, post spokeswoman Marla Jones said.

"As far as they know, she has not been around any person that has the flu," she said. "They haven't seen any connection among these families."

Two cases were reported last week, and at that time officials did not think the cases were related. The first case at Fort Gordon was reported on June 12.

Eisenhower is testing anyone who shows up with flulike symptoms and so far none of the cases has been particularly severe, Ms. Jones said.

As of Friday, Georgia had confirmed 65 cases of the novel virus, and South Carolina had recorded 120, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
