Michael Jackson coverage overblown

Please spell out for me exactly what it was that Michael Jackson did in his lifetime that was so humanitarian and good for all mankind to deserve the hoopla and fanfare in the press since doing us all a favor and passing on. I don't understand how a mere pop star can garner such lavish attention, especially considering his questionable morals and lifestyle.

Did he find a cure for cancer, multiple sclerosis or diabetes? No. Did he discover new ways for us to fuel our cars, planes and trucks? No. Did he find alternate energy sources for us to use in place of electric to light our houses and keep them cool in summer and warm in winter? No. Did he develop any ideas for working toward peace on Earth for all? No. Did he collaborate with others toward ending world hunger and poverty? No.

About all this guy ever did was make a bunch of music videos, wear a funky glittery glove, pull off a couple clever dance moves, squeal like a little girl and undergo countless hours of plastic surgery to gratify his own selfish, ego-driven interests. Oh, yeah, he also managed to become famous for supposedly getting too friendly with little boys -- but of course all that bit of debauchery was conveniently swept under the rug.

But now he's dead, and the media act like he was the male counterpart of Mother Teresa, just cause he was a star . It's absolutely sickening and reeks of hypocrisy.

Your paper should have taken a higher road and not even bothered to report on the death of who was essentially a waste of human skin and bones.

Ms Myers he was just a human being living in a confused and terrible world and tried to make a difference through his music. The only way he knew how which made some people stop and think about their lives and they made the difference in the world. So Ms Myers why don't you inspire someone to be better ?

Micheal Jackson wasn't only a super talent, he also was very altruistic. He was a huge donor to many (over 35) charities. He didn't make the lives of the little boys he molested better. As a long time card player, I can recognize trump when I see it.

While raising money for charities through concerts and songs is not the best thing ever, but it showed good intentions, which is more than many people give. Bill Gates does not have any cure for cancers, etc either, but I applaud him, like Mr. Jackson, for donating money and trying to do well. As for the media coverage, its supply and demand. The media is business.

southernguy08

I'm so sick of hearing about Michael Jackson. You turn on the tv or radio or pick up a newspaper and that's all you hear!

sgachief

i agree, too much hoopla for someone with very questionable moral values!

wizzardx1

If your hero is a child molesting drug addict-you are sick.

jack234

southernquy08: Don't turn on the tv or radio or pick up the paper - why you couldn;t figure this out? What makes the LTE think that "contribution to mankind" is a criteria used to decide how much news coveragea person should get? Just a few things to think about this morning. HELLO! HELLO! The LTE starts with a false assumption. What a waste of ink. HELLO! HELLO!

butterbrown

Wow Ms. Myers, I guess all of the coverage of Elvis death was overblown. Take a chill pill lady. The man has passed, his family is in mourning, have a heart lady.

lifelongresidient

although his death as those of all human beings is tragic and sad it does not take away from the fact that MJ has had many unheathy relationships with young boys, which in turn made it necessary for MJ to make financial settlements with the victims families, if he wasnt MJ and was just a "regular joe" that did good works for the community but had the same unheathy relationships with young boys(i. e. readily admited to sleep in the same bed with them) would all of you who are praising MJ, would praise the "regular joe" were he to die unexpectedly??? for example a former richmond county deputy was recently acquitted of having an unhealthy relationship w/a 14 yr old female(he was accused of kissing her on the lips), he was killed in a one car accident this weekend. for his willingness to put his life on the line while he preformed his duties where are all of the praises for him??????

happydazerhereagain

too bad you feel that way SIN-dy because all the major net works and the whole world feel the opposite. like it or not he was an icon. you are a peon and will always be a peon. answer me, what have you done in your small corner of the world to improve ANYTHING?
your opinion is like a [filtered word] in the wind

happydazerhereagain

i think sin-dy needs some good lovin to knock out that sour mood..lmao

Blame the media, stop whining to us about it. Don't read the newspaper or turn on TV if you don't want to hear. I would think you would have mentioned Billy Mays. He seems more your speed. RIP Billy Mays (Mr. Oxyiclean) Did they ever bury Farrah?

Boston93

To: Van Love. I agree he was an Icon, but not a positive one.

blamin

He was a huge superstar, talented in a form of music -pop- that for the most part is extremely shallow. Will people listen to his music 40 or 50 years from now? Doubtful, but possible.

rufus

You know what his last hit was? The floor

be honest

Well, Cindy, I am assuming we won't see you at the prayer vigil tonight? Guess I missed you heading up the "We are the World" event which raised millions for starving Africans. Not too many of those in your neighborhood, eh? And heaven forbid the Chronicle report on a major news story. You are so right, they should have just glossed right over the story and refused to mention it. How dare them report news!! How low can they go? I bet you cancelled your subscription, those dirty dogs! BTW, how many of the things you said he didn't do have YOU done? All any of us can do is what we can do in our walk of life. He was found not guilty in a court of law. Welcome to the legal system. If he did the things you think he did, God will judge him, and last I saw, that ain't you or me, trixie. Do I agree with everything he did--no, but all my dirty laundry through the years hasn't been in the news...and neither has YOURS. If he's a waste of skin and bones, then anyone God made is if they don't live up to your standards. While praying tonight, we'll lift up one for you, too. I'm no big Jackson fan, but I'd sure want someone to pray for me. Guessing that won't be you, right?

jack234

tell fox news. hello! hello!

jack

Frankly, a freaky looking, girly squeaking side show like Jackson's does NOT deserve 24/7 news coverage IMO I DID give Fox news a piece of my mind, Jacfazz234..

godbeeaug

To all the negative commenters and Cyndy Meyers what have you done to contribute to make this world and even your neighborhood better!

lowellbrown

I get a good bit of news from the TV news channels, and sure would like to know what's going on outside Michaelland. Another thing: The very thought of depending upon "pop icons" like Michael Jackson to help feed the world's hungry rankles me.

colcamp1

Do not watch. I turned the channel. I could care less about Charlie or his angels.

colcamp1

Jack do not worry, when you go 4 your dirt nap, no one will notice.

corgimom

Rufus, LOL BIG TIME!!!! Now they are talking on tv about Bubbles the chimp, will this junk never end. As for his great humanitarian work, he got tax writeoffs for it- and big hefty ones too.

corgimom

It'll be a cold day in Hell before I ever pray for a child molester.

meshell

Well i am not a big fan of Michael Jackson, but he did a lot of good things, he was not found guilty of child molestation, and it is only the lord to judge him, I do know this, he had talent, and he had money, and could do with it what he wanted he earned it, yes he had problems, but we all do, he deserved to be noticed and to be thanked for bringing music to this world that millions love , just like Elvis and anyone else who has made their way to the top, how many people can do that.

anotherday

Good things = pass on all the questionable things he did I guess? Also, all of those charities he did were HUGE write offs that allowed him to feed Bubbles at Neverland and buys lots of Spiderman jammies. The "We Are The World Campain was not just him but a huge amount of singers. He did not plan and exacute it. But I will say it did serve a very good purpose. Think about it people, he read Peter Pan long into the night. This is your role model?

tommymack

Let's put to bed a few myths/lies about Michael Jackson. He was not the first black entertainer whose music 'crossed racial lines". Ever heard of Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown? He was not "the greatest entertainer who ever lived". Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Paul McCartney, Sammy Davis Jr., Beethoven, Mozart anybody? And he was not, as ambulance chaser Al Sharpton suggests, a "Civil Rights hero." He was so unhappy with his own self he bleached his skin white, had countless surgeries to narrow his nose and had a blond haired, white woman be a surrogate for his children. This is an example for African Americans to strive for? If you want a great entertainer who was one of the first to cross racial barriers; who, despite his inability to see, was so prolific an enterainer, he earned the name "The Genius"; and who faced the realities of eating and sleeping in separate quarters because of the color of his skin and, despite it all, survived the hatred to be one of the most beloved musicians of all time, look to the late, great Ray Charles. There was no wall to wall coverage of his death. I guess good people aren't newsworthy.
