As a member of the Augusta GreenJackets last season, teenage prospect Angel Villalona earned a trip to the Major League Baseball All-Star festivities to play in the Futures Game.
A year later, Villalona will return to the annual event alongside another former GreenJacket.
Villalona and pitching prospect Madison Bumgarner were named to the 2009 Futures Game rosters last week.
The minor league stars were teammates all last year and early this season before Bumgarner was promoted to the Double-A Connecticut Defenders May 7.
Bumgarner is 8-2 this season with a 1.79 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 70q innings in the two leagues.
Villalona is hitting .278 with 36 RBI for the Advanced-A San Jose Giants.
The selections create the possibility for an interesting matchup between the two San Francisco Giants prospects.
Villalona, on the World team roster, could potentially go to bat against Bumgarner, who will pitch for the U.S. team.
The Futures Game will be played July 12 at Busch Field in St. Louis.
ALL-STAR PART 1: A pair of former area high school baseball stars took the field against each other last week in a professional atmosphere.
The independent Atlantic League All-Star game featured former Hephzibah High School standout Lloyd Turner playing for the Freedom Division All-Star team, while Greenbrier High School product James Shanks was a member of the Liberty Division All-Stars.
In a 7-5 win by the Liberty Division, it was Turner who put up the better numbers. The Lancaster Barnstomers second baseman went 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored a run. Shanks went 0-for-3 with a walk.
ALL-STAR PART 2: Thomas Neal , a first baseman and designated hitter for the GreenJackets last season, has made the transition to right field, and he has played well enough at the position to earn a spot in this year's Advanced-A All-Star Game after hitting .342 for the San Jose Giants in the first half of the season.
Neal went 0-for-1 with a walk in his professional all-star debut Tuesday.
Neal's California League All-Stars beat the Carolina League in 10 innings with a walk-off home run from Lancaster JetHawks outfielder Jonathan Gaston .
HALL OF FAME: The South Atlantic League on Thursday announced the addition of two members to the SAL Hall of Fame.
Former Hickory general manager David Haas and Asheville manager Joe Mikulik made up the league's Class of 2009.
Haas served as Hickory's general manager from 1993-2007. Mikulik has recorded more than 700 victories as the manager of the Tourists.
