Here are fixes to problems in D.C.

  • Follow Letters

For the life of me, I cannot figure out the current crop of politicians we have in Washington, D.C. We are being led to our demise by self-serving politicians of both parties -- one group by having absolute power in D.C. (the Democrats), the other by the timid response to the takeover of the private sector by an ever-expanding, unconstitutional government (the Republicans).

We have problems, no doubt -- it's called the government. If the government really wants to help the economy and employ people, create a real energy policy. We as a country are blessed with an abundant amount of natural resources; we have the leading edge in technology. Build nuclear power plants; drill for our own oil and natural gas; and work on clean-coal technology. This will create real jobs not only in the energy field but in every aspect of our economy. It will create real wealth and real jobs with lasting benefits to our country.

We will reduce our trade inbalance; it will create a larger tax base and hopefully revenue sharing with states to relieve their budget deficits if they participate in the energy plan; and with real jobs you have real wealth -- it spreads through the economy and benefits all who want to participate. We are then no longer dependent on the Middle East or anywhere else for our energy. This deprives the Middle East of its inflated importance regardless of where we got our oil before.

Next, I would change the tax code to a consumption tax or a flat tax that cannot be tinkered with. Spending would be tied to a small percent of the Gross Domestic Product, and no more. This new tax code would be very friendly to manufacturing and business, making the United States a friend of commerce. Attracting business would be a boom, and again contribute to the making of real wealth. ...

Don't forget to include a revamping of the education system to produce voters that wouldn't even think about voting for the mess we have now. Informed voters would be a nice change.

PT, the education system is

PT, the education system is and will always be the problem. You have the majority of educators that are liberal from elementary school all the way through college indoctrinating our children. I mean just read the textbooks and you will see. And in the majority of cases you are criticized by those same educators in front of your peers if you differ in your opinion and even sometimes penalized with lower grades.

The United States started

The United States started this recession/depression many years ago when it became cheaper to manufacture goods in foreign countries rather than America. Our government allowed many of our manufacturing jobs to be moved out of this country. Manufacturing has always been the backbone of our economy. In an attempt to create a world economy we allowed our economy to go down the tubes.

Geta life, one more nail was

Geta life, one more nail was placed in America's coffin yesterday. A drug addicted pedofile died the other day and that is all you can get on the news. Yesterday the US House of representatives passed "The American Clean Energy and Security Act" or cap and trade. Any company that uses energy (even lumber mills that burn thier own waste to produce energy) are going to be taxed on that energy. Heating and cooling costs are going to raise $2,000 to $ 3,000 dollars per year per home. The cost of manufacturing, and distrubition of products is going to increase. The 300 page amendment to the bill was published at three AM the bill was passed at 7pm. Who really understood what it will do to America. It really doesn't matter...a drug addicted pedofile died so people left the welfare lines to mourn a drug adicted pedolfile, not the death of America...

The greatest fix in Washington will be the elections of 2010 and 2012. That will be "change we can believe in."

Other than Jimmy Stewart's

Other than Jimmy Stewart's 1939 portrayal of "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" when has anyone known of a politician not wanting to be "self served" first. The only way to stop this is to not vote for any incumbents and attract new blood. Make sure you understand the character of this new blood before you vote for that person. Educate yourself!

Jack I hope you are on

Jack I hope you are on welfare or have a very good job (if it lasts) because Obama and the Democrat's cap and trade bill are going to raise your energy rates by 2 to 3 thuosand a year... Then when you notice the Democrates will blame the evil energy companies for the increased cost and job loose, every body will wring thier hands and life will go on as our freedom and wealth disappear... Jack this is not a joke or humeroous, can you afford 2 to 3 thousand a year more for energy to heat and cool your home? Does your employer use energy?

carcraft, I watched the last

carcraft, I watched the last little bit of that debate and the nonsense the GOP spouted. I am glad that this thing passed the House. The Senate needs to pass this bill promptly. If it fails to make it out of the Senate, then we can all forget about trying to get a job. Because we will die from pollution and other problems caused by man-made global warming before anyone can get a job.

I notice you want a tax code

I notice you want a tax code "very friendly to business and manufacturing". Well how about the every day worker? I know yhey don't mean much to the CONServatives but they built this country. BTW I am all for a flat tax as long as it is progressive. I sure don't want some CEO's making 100 million and only paying taxes on the one million they spend to live on for a year. Conversely, I would like for a family making 50-60 thousand a year to have the ability to save a couple of hundred. For those that don't know, there are many countries in the world with a two class living standard (low and high) all the countries with flat taxes have no middle class society. What are we advocating here?

What counts is where the polls are when its re-election time. Look like it might be Obama vs Michael Steele as he keeps talking about resigning as chair and throwing his hat into the race. Michael Steele might be the only hope for the rep. HELLO! HELLO!
