MUSICAL ROOTS : "I switched over (from drums) to bass when I was 16 years old. My brother purchased an electric bass, and you couldn't get it out of my hands for two weeks. And then I went out and bought my first bass, which was a Fender Precision Bass, '72 P Bass. And from that point on, I was focused on it, and I connected with it in a very deep way. And I was playing it between eight and 12 hours every day for three years straight. "

BEST CONCERT ATTENDED: Weather Report, New York, about 1979: "The energy level of the musicianship, the composition and what was being played and created at the moment was untouchable."

FAVORITE MOVIES: Caddyshack and Barfly

FIRST PERFORMANCE: Crazy Fingers, Lynbrook, N.Y., 1977. "The first month I was playing, we did a concert and we were a Southern rock band. We played The Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker and the Grateful Dead. ... (The concert) was awesome. And at that concert I had several people come up to me and ask to study, so I started teaching right away."

PRE-SHOW RITUAL: " With Jesse's band, we all make a circle and we hold each other's hands ... and do a group meditation just to breathe and calm ourselves."
