AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Sunday, June 21, 2009, at University Hospital, M/SGT (Ret.) Charles R. DuPuis, 90, husband of the late Henrietta F. DuPuis. Mr. DuPuis, a member of Ioway Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, was a native of White Cloud, KS, had resided in Augusta since 1965, longer than anywhere else. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the US Army after 30 years having served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was in the first class of recipients of the Bishop Gartland Award honored by the Diocese of Savannah in the year 2000. Family members include his sons: Bruce E. DuPuis and wife Anne DuPuis of Seattle, WA, CW5 (ret) Dennis P. DuPuis and his wife Kay of North Augusta, SC; daughter: Dr. Patricia D. Scherer of Leland, N.C. and grandchildren: Claudia A. Schilling and husband Jake, SSGT Charles B. DuPuis and wife Marcia, Amy Stembridge and husband Jeff, April Konter and husband SSGT John, and Jason Scherer and wife Lisa, Robert F. Scherer (deceased), Kateri Terrette and husband SGT Brandon, expecting their first child in September. Also, great-grandchildren: Allen, Christina, Courtney, Marissa and Jaelin Schilling, Mason and Shavin DuPuis, Davis, Jackson and Amelia Stembridge. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on-the-Hill Catholic Church, with Rev. Gerald Ragan celebrant. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta, with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions can be made to his daughter, Patricia Scherer, 1026 Stonebridge Lane, Leland, NC 28451 for the establishment of an educational scholarship in his name for the members of the Ioway Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska.
