Jake Walker (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Deacon Jake Walker age 76, devoted husband of Mattie Alberta (Jones) Walker entered peacefully into eternal rest on June 19, 2009 at the Charlie Norwood Medical Center, Downtown Division. Deacon Walker was born in Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Olin (Mattie Herrington) Walker on December 19, 1932. He was a member of the Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Deacon and an Usher. He was also a member of the Ushers Union of Georgia where he served as Vice President Emeritus until his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Abraham #667. Deacon Walker was also a retired Foreman from the Clearwater Finishing Plant. In addition to his devoted wife of 55 years, his survivors include his loving brother, Benjamin F. (Christine) Walker of Hephzibah, Georgia; a devoted sister- in- law, Ms. Frankie (Jones) Morgan and a devoted niece, COL (Ret) Gwendolyn Fryer both of Augusta, Georgia. In addition, he leaves to celebrate his life, four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and five generations of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins; as well as a devoted Church family and a host of friends. Friends and family may view the remains at W. H. Mays Mortuary on Wednesday June 24, 2009 from 10:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Homegoing Services will be conducted on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 1404 Brown Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901, with Reverend Jonavon Harris officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens, Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906. The remains will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until the hour of service. W. H.
