The black population, understandably proud that one of their own had reached this pinnacle, voted overwhelmingly for him. White liberals, perhaps aware of the terrible history of the Democrats and race relations, voted for him to assuage their own guilt at their party's record of pro-slavery, anti-civil rights, segregation, The Ku Klux Klan and Jim Crow laws!
These were all authored by Democrats, not Republicans!
Certainly no one bothered to scrutinize Caesar and his past associations, nor question what the "change" he promised meant! Now we see, and he's coming after your health care under the ruse of "saving" it, just like the other businesses he has made wards of the government!
The words Marxist, socialist, and communist, of course, do not resonate with our citizens, especially the younger age groups. They have no memory or experience as a point of reference, so these are just words that have no real significance to them! Yet, in their youthful hubris, they feel they are the wisest of the wise! They casually dismiss the difference between the above and free-market capitalism as inconsequential.

You are correct about our youngest voters. But it is more than youthful hubris. Many of these young folks who feel that they are qualified to pass judgement on a system of commerce and government that has worked well for 233 years have no real world experience from which to make those decisions. Many are still living at home on mommy and daddy's dime. All are a product of an educational system stuffed with liberal educators who are educators because they could not function in job where they had to produce a product or become unemployed. We have truly reaped what we sowed. But when mommy and daddy's money is all gone these young folks will develop and new set of values very quickly and the worm will turn. Whether it will be too late by then is probably a question of what happens in the next two elections.
Sorry Robert, those old Dems from the Jim Crow days are now Repubs. The defection started with the Dixiecrats and Strom Thurmond after the Dems suported desegregation in 1948 and became full force after the Voting Rights Act. They're your guys now. Enoy them, they're the base of the Repub Party.

Yes TechLover, none of the Democrat ideas that established the Democrat party exists, they've all gone to the Republican party. Or all of the Republican ideas are now part of the Democrat party or they're so blended and homogenized that they're indistinguishable. Blaming all of our countries woes on the Democrats makes as much sense as your comment that "those old Dems are now Repubs". The incestuous relationship enjoyed by these two parties for the past two decades has led to the socialist power grab we're enjoying now. Pointing fingers and chanting mantras won't help this country at this point. Both parties and their bureaucracies need to be removed NOW and replaced with people that believe the constitution is still the law of the land.

BTW, black voters vote disproportionately for Democratic candidates (note the proper spelling there, PT, it's not "Democrat" candidates) so it's not as if THEY voted for him because he's black, either. They would have voted for Hillary in the same percentages. And Smock, maybe next time you can leave off the exclamation points. Did your English teacher never tell you that they are easily overused....and you used ten of 'em.

This is dramatic rhetoric, but it reveals the author is, at heart, merely a drama queen. The average high schooler is as well educated as the men who founded this country. The leaders of industry today are young men and women under 30. Referring to historical events by party is a asnine as ideology has shifted over the history of our system--the ideologues themselves have merely perched wherever they were accepted. Socialism has many forms besides pure Marxism and that archetypal Soviet monstrosity we all remember. However, while Obama clearly hangs to the left, he is not a Marxist, he is not trying to rule, he is clearly trying to clean up a mess that has exploded after fifty or so years of waiting to burst. We may be the enemy, but not because we elected Obama; rather, it is because we let ourselves go for so long that we needed an Obama.

Patricia, thank you for your 7:38 post. It is time to quit voting for Republicans. Instead, vote Libertarian next time. Even better, get out and work for your Libertarian candidate. It is tough to get on the ballot as a third party in Georgia.

southernguy, I'm sure you're talking about Planned Parenthood, which is much more than an abortion clinic. They are major distributors of family planning information and birth control, and those are important services to the larger community, not least of all to save money. So while I would be against government support for abortion-only clinics, they do other work that benefits taxpayers.
Hotfoot, in case you didn't know, the use of Democrat rather than Democratic is intentional and meant to be grating. The word has been used for years by Republicans. Technically you are right, but the word Democrat is in common usage now. So get off your high grammatical horse.
