NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. Berry W. McIntyre, Jr., 81, husband of Faye Malcom McIntyre, of Byrnes Rd., entered in to rest Friday, June 19, 2009 at University Hospital. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday June 22, 2009 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park, Military Honors will be accorded by Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. He was a native of Lyons, GA and had been a resident of North Augusta since 1958. He graduated from the University of Georgia and Woodrow Wilson College of Law. He was retired from the insurance industry. He was founder of Insurance Services of Augusta. Prior to coming to the Augusta area he was employed with Liberty Mutual Insurance Companies. He was an original staff member during the formation of First Georgia Insurance Company and later became the company's President. He served his country during the Korean War and retired from the Army Medical Service Corps. While in Augusta he was Company Commander of the 382nd Army Field Hospital Unit. Mr. McIntyre was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta and the Timothy Sunday School Class. He was past president of the Exchange Club of North Augusta and a member of Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. He was former president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Augusta and the Professional Insurance Agents of Georgia. Additional survivors include two sons, Berry W. McIntyre, III (Margie) and Lee A. McIntyre (Beverly), a daughter, Carol M. Brown and five grandchildren, Laura Thornton, Erin Babcock, Berry W. McIntyre, IV, Meagan Brown and Travis Brown. He also had five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Vida McIntyre, as well as four sisters and one brother. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Timothy Sunday School Class and members of Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
