COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina outfielder DeAngelo Mack is turning pro.
The school said Monday that the junior has agreed to terms and will sign a contract with the New York Yankees. The Yankees selected Mack in the 13th round of last week's draft.
Mack hit .361 with 14 home runs and 60 RBIs in 2009.
South Carolina coach Ray Tanner said last week he remembered telling Mack a few years ago he would likely would never be an everyday player for the Gamecocks. Tanner said Mack promised to prove Tanner wrong and he was proud to see Mack improve into a pro prospect.
Mack will report to the Yankees' training facility in Tampa and will likely start his pro baseball career with the Staten Island Yankees in the New York-Penn League.
