COLUMBIA --- South Carolina forward Dominique Archie says he is removing his name from the NBA Draft and returning to school for his senior season.
Archie, a former Josey High School standout, said Thursday he received valuable feedback about his game from his workouts for NBA teams but felt it was in his best interest to stay in school.
Archie averaged 10.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during his junior season, helping South Carolina to 21 wins and a share of the Southeastern Conference East title. Archie started all of the Gamecocks' games and was named to the All-SEC second team and All-Defensive team by the league's coaches.
"Going into the process I fully expected to come back to school, but it was good for me to get insight and feedback throughout the workouts," Archie said in a statement. "I'm very excited about my senior season and the direction that our team is headed."
The Gamecocks, who lost to Davidson in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament in March, now wait to see if guard Devan Downey comes back. Downey has also worked out for NBA teams and is considering his options. The deadline to return to school is Monday.
Downey was an All-SEC guard last season, averaging 19.8 points and 4.5 steals a game.
Archie, who was redshirted his freshman year, was a member of the Freshman All-SEC team in 2007, when he averaged nearly nine points and a five rebounds per game.
He scored 10.6 points and added more than five boards per game during his sophomore season. He finished the year tied for the team lead in rebounds and was second in blocks.
Archie is only 59 points shy of 1,000 for his career at South Carolina.
