Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

I'M 80 YEARS OLD, and I've gone through a lot of presidential elections. You open the paper every morning, and there's Obama's mug on it. All over it. Every page. You turn on the TV, and there he is. Does he ever go to sleep and rest? I don't remember any other president ever having himself smeared across everything. After a while, you get disgusted and don't even want to look at him.

TO THE PERSON complaining about President Obama taking his wife, Michelle, to New York City for the weekend: I think it was great. President George W. Bush was so unpopular the only place he could take his wife was to Crawford, Texas, and to Camp David. Stop bashing the president, please.

RANTER WRONGLY WRITES that it is "not patriotic to criticize the president." Patriotism is based on loyalty to a country and not to an individual politician. It is certainly patriotic to oppose anybody who appears to be destroying the country we honor.

I WOULD LIKE TO RANT about the people who are calling this area about Visa or MasterCard rates. They tell us they are going up, like everything else. And then you press 9 to get a live person. The person then asks for your credit card number. When I asked how I would know they were with the credit card company, they hung up on me. I have received several of these calls.

A HUGE RANT to Rick McKee and your entire editorial staff for publishing the image of President Obama apologizing to a Hitler look-alike for the D-Day invasion. What an insult to our president, WWII veterans and American voters in general -- and on a weekend when you reported elsewhere in your newspaper on the president's visit to a former concentration camp where he condemned the torture and murder that took place there and the next day participated in memorials where he lauded veterans of the invasion.

THE JUNE 6 editorial cartoon was right on. In fact, I was quite surprised that Obama did not apologize when he spoke in Dresden; he apologized everywhere else on his trip.

A RANT TO the man driving near Gordon Highway and Deans Bridge Road Monday afternoon who repeatedly and deliberately cut into the lane alongside my son on his motorcycle. You and your wife thought this was a fun game, I guess. My son and many other drivers did not. Your tag was reported to the sheriff's department, along with a full account of your actions.
