Trucker is killed when he's struck by pickup

A Jackson, Ga., man was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday morning, according to Mark Bowen, Richmond County chief deputy coroner.

William Danes, 45, was delivering asphalt when he parked his dump truck in the 4200 block of Mike Padgett Highway. He was struck by a white Chevrolet pickup traveling south in the northbound lane, Mr. Bowen said. Mr. Danes was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:40 a.m.

Police charged Charles Oglesby, 27, of Waynesboro, Ga., with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and driving on the wrong side of the road.
