Three Edgefield County school officials resign

JOHNSTON, S.C. --- The chief financial officer of the Edgefield County School District and two school administrators at Merriwether Elementary School have resigned.

Confirmation of the resignations of Teresa Clark, the district's CFO, and Merriwether Elementary Principal Gene Huiet and Assistant Principal Robert Ellis was received Wednesday, and vacancies for the three positions are already listed on the district's Web site.

Edgefield County school board member Andy Livingston said the resignations are a cause for concern, and that they would be discussed at the board's next meeting on June 23.

"I am surprised and concerned, especially with (Ms. Clark)," said Mr. Livingston. "She was a great employee and knew what she was doing. As far as the specifics on (the resignations), I don't know anything. It was not expected and it really surprised me. I didn't know any of them were coming. With three resignations in two weeks' time we will have to talk about that."

At the heart of these resignations are: U guessed it, the "R" word. These people can't work together and there is little or no leadership, except for the pastors, who need to stick to their vocation. Hopefully, someone can step up and get that school board in order to meet the challegences of a new school year. Good luck cause they gonna need it.
