GreenJackets get swept in twin bill
In Rome, Ga., the Augusta GreenJackets dropped a pair of seven-inning games against the Braves, 1-0 and 7-2, on Friday.
Braeden Schlehuber's RBI double off Augusta starter Eric Surkamp (3-2) in the seventh lifted Rome in the opener. The Green-Jackets had just two hits.
Brett DeVall (4-2) gave up four hits and struck out five.
In the nightcap, the Braves took an early 7-0 lead before cruising to the win. Schlehuber smacked a three-run homer in the third inning and finished with four RBI.
Kyle Nicholson (4-5) took the loss for Augusta. The right-hander gave up seven runs and 10 hits in two innings.
Braves reliever Paul Clemens (3-2) earned the win.

Lady Jaguars add guard to new class
Augusta State has added Breanna Harris, a 5-foot-7 guard from Columbus, Ga., to its latest recruiting class, women's basketball coach Tes Sobomehin announced Friday.
Harris played for Hardaway High School, which reached the Class AAAA state tournament the past four seasons, including a pair of Final Four trips in 2007 and 2009.
l Seventy-three of Augusta State's 132 student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the spring 2009 semester. They earned the recognition by having a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The school said seven student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA. The women's tennis team posted the top average with a 3.54 GPA.
l Georgia first baseman Rich Poythress, a former Greenbrier standout, and catcher Bryce Massanari were named to the All Ping! Baseball Team.
Poythress is on the first team while Massanari is an honorable mention selection.

AAU regional event held this weekend
The boys AAU super regional championship for the 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U basketball teams is being held in the Augusta area this weekend.
Games for the national qualifier event will be played at Patriots Park Gym, Augusta Christian High School, Evans Middle School, Evans High School, Columbia Middle School and Liberty Park in Grovetown.
Admission is $10 today and $10 Sunday. Children 3 and under are free.

Armstrong reveals son's birth on Web
Lance Armstrong announced the birth of son Max during a break between the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France next month. Max is Armstrong's fourth child.
The 37-year-old cycling great posted a message on his Twitter account Thursday night and included a picture of the newborn, playfully sticking out his tongue at the camera.
"Wassup, world? My name is Max Armstrong and I just arrived. My Mommy is healthy and so am I!" Armstrong wrote, noting Max weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long.
Armstrong and his girlfriend, Anna Hansen, had said they were expecting a baby in June. Armstrong also has three children with his ex-wife, Kristin.

Former NBA All-Star Randy Smith dies
Randy Smith, a blindingly fast All-Star with the Buffalo Braves in the 1970s who once held the NBA record for consecutive games, died while working out on a treadmill. He was 60.
He had a massive heart attack Thursday while exercising at the Connecticut casino where he worked, son-in-law Lekan Bashua said.
Jack Ramsay, Smith's coach in Buffalo, called the 6-foot-3 guard the best athlete he ever coached.
l Richard E. Jacobs, the former Cleveland Indians owner and commercial real estate developer, has died. He was 84.
