ORANGE, Conn. - Cynthia Louise Cant, age 74, of Orange, beloved wife of Roy E. Cant, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family Monday, June 1, 2009. Born in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Ruth and Garo Ray, she had been an Orange resident for the last 40 years. A graduate of The Fones School of Dental Hygiene, she practiced Dental Hygiene in the area for thirty years. An avid gardener, she was a member of the Spade and Hoe Garden Club in Milford where she served as President from 1966 to 1968, and a member of the Garden Club of Orange since 1986, serving as President from 1997 to 1998. Mrs. Cant was a Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut Accredited Flower Show Judge. For many years she was responsible for the growing, nurturing and planting of the marigolds and tulips on the Orange Town Green. She was a member of the Town of Orange Beautification Committee. Mrs. Cant was also a member of the Orange Players for thirteen years from its first show, Pajama Game. In 2004 she was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Fairfield. She and her husband Roy participated in the Gift of Life Foundation hosting a child from Albania undergoing heart surgery, and for ten years, hosted children from the inner city of New Haven to play in her pool and yard. Survivors in addition to her husband Roy include a daughter, Kyle (Brian) Buckley and grandchildren, Meaghan and Timothy of Loveland, CO; son, Michael Cant of Guilford, CT; daughter, Susan (Stephen) Lackey and grandson Jason of Norwalk, CT; daughter, Beth (Francis) Devenny and granddaughters, Kimberly and Sarah of Easton, MD; son, Christopher (Terri) Rieke and grandchildren Lindsey, Kaitlyn and Ryan of Aiken, SC.; a sister, Virginia Carol Reinhard of Orange, CT, and a niece, Lori Carbonnell. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Buckley, Jr. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meetinghouse Lane, Orange, CT. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours.
