Georgia new site for ATM provider's base
ATLANTA — The world's leading provider of ATMs announced Tuesday it is relocating its corporate headquarters to Georgia, bringing more than 2,000 jobs to the state over the next five years.
NCR Corp., a Fortune 500 company, said it will move its headquarters to Duluth from Dayton, Ohio.
Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland cobbled together a $31.1 million incentive package. But that came nowhere near the roughly $60 million in tax breaks Georgia used to lure the company . Most of the credits were from a new mega-tax credit Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law last month to attract big companies to the state.
NCR's headquarters move will bring 1,250 jobs to Duluth. The company will also set up a manufacturing center in Columbus, Ga., that will employ an additional 870 people .
Layoffs could temper boost in home sales
Home sales appear likely to head upward this summer , but prices are expected to keep falling well into next year. Layoffs, which are causing foreclosures to soar, coupled with rising mortgage rates could dampen any real estate recovery.
The National Association of Realtors said Tuesday its seasonally adjusted index of sales contracts signed in April surged 6.7 percent to 90.3, far exceeding analysts' forecasts. It was the biggest monthly jump since October 2001.
