There will still be trucks and other vehicles for commercial (business) usage, and cars that may hold 6 passengers if necessary. If you and your wife produce 8, 9, 10 children you are more of the problem than are many of the others in America today, and you do NOT have the right to pursue the "desires as fun-loving Americans" when they infringe on the rights of all Americans that might wish to maintain the limited privileges that diminishing natural resources might provide. Hay GGpap, what about your house, you really don't need airconditoning, it is spoiling the planet for our kids, go down to the community cool center on a hot day! A television, my goodness all the natural resoursces and electricity to run it. Toilets waste 5 gallons of water per flush, buy an eco tiolet to composte your waste and use it on the garden! I see one of the things that the government is doing is forcing the automotive industries hands when it comes to unused technology. There is technology that can easily bring us up to the CAFE standards that the government is proposing. The auto industry has buried patents on things that will make our fuel efficiency a lot better.

as for all the different ways we can save the earth. This is not a "new age" hippy thing to do, this is what our grandparents were doing. Consumptionism is what has been forced down our throats by corporations and the mythical "free market system". Former generations did not waste like we do and products made by the corporations lasted because people did not expect them to break after a few years.

My wife and I had to buy fridge yesterday because the one that we had broke after only 6 years. When I was growing up we had one fridge that lasted the 18 years I was at home plus some. The broken fridge was not due to government regulation but built in obsolescence, a business model that makes sure products are prone to breaking after a few years or are overpowered by new products.

car: I don't seem to remember you griping about every trip W took. Mr. Wireman:It's a fleet average. Some will get higher MPG, some less. The best selling cars in the US are the Accord, Civic, Camry, and Corolla so there seems to be no aversion to smaller cars. You can bet the foreign carmakers will meet the standards without difficulty. If the US automakers had made similar cars they wouldn't be in the shape they're in.

It seems that Obama will run America as he sees fit with no oversight from any government agency. The Presidency of the United States is one of the most powerful leadership positions in the world, but the Constitution does provide for checks and balances. Those of you who think Obama is leading you down a yellow brick road, remember this: there is a big mud pit at the end of it, and when you are mired in the mud and have no choices as to how to get out of it, Obama will have no time for you then.So, when you pull up to the hardware store and need to purchase some building materials, and have to pay a fee to get it delivered,instead of being able to drive a nice full sized pickup truck to haul it home in, then you will think twice. If all the people who claimed they supported the efforts to reduce their carbon foot print then the rest of us could still enjoy our muscle cars, 4 wheel drive SUV's and Trucks, Boats, and ATV's. The problem is that liberals do not practice what they preach. Liberals call for lower emission, but you see them enjoying all the available resources as the rest of us do. I can say that I do plant, and support wild life. We lease land where trees have been harvested, and plant food plots for game and non game species. Also, people that hunt and fish pay for licenses that goes to conservation of our natural resources. The liberals do nothing, to support our local wildlife, but complain about people like me.

The problem isn't that the Prez can go blow money on personal relaxation and every Prez has. But this Prez is doing so during what has been portrayed as an economic catastrophe and a time when "everyone has to make sacrifices". Well apparently Obama thinks that applies to all but him. It is difficult to respect a boss or leader who won't do what he expects and asks of his employees to do for him. As far as global warming it is global so without a global effort it is a waste of time. The problem with many of the conservation efforts is that many produce more problems, pollution, and costs. Many recycle efforts consume more energy, produce more greenhouse gases, and produce other pollutants. But it looks good on paper. One active volcano can produce more greenhouse gases in a week that man-made in ten years. Remember too this, as yet, isn't China where you can have one child and forced abortions and sterilzations, but apparently many of you would support such actions.

I drive a hybrid, Milton. When I bought it, the dealer made sure to tell me (even against his own economic interests) that it would be hard to trade in down the line because there's not much market for them down here.
