While Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver is running all around trying to get his new ballpark that most of the citizens dont want, he should stop for a little while and address a few issues.
The roads around here are terrible. They have been patched so much they remind me of one of my grandmothers patch quilts.
My friends and I go to Beamies, The Cotton Patch and Riverwalk Augusta all the time. Riverwalk is falling apart. The big parking area between Beamies and The Cotton Patch is a disgrace. There are mud holes down there that are so big, I believe they might hold fish. I see tour buses down there all the time. It makes me wonder what the out of town people think about the parking area. At least grade it and put some gravel down.
Last but not least, the city should start doing something with all of Augustas history its buildings, landmarks, cemeteries, etc. I see that the Sons of Confederate Veterans have raised money to save the Confederate Powder Works chimney and have asked the city for help. Help them out and any other group that wants to save the history of this city.
The mayor seems to be able to find money for his ballpark. He should find some for the people who want to save the history of our city.
