3 high school seniors charged in vandalism

COLUMBIA --- Three high school seniors have been arrested and charged with vandalizing 26 South Carolina school buses.

The State reported Friday that all three 18-year-old men attended North Central High School in Kershaw County. School Superintendent Frank Morgan says disciplinary hearings will be conducted to determine whether the students will be allowed to graduate.

Harrison Toney of Bethune, Darius Kelly of Heath Springs and Nathaniel Jones of Kershaw are charged with malicious injury to property worth more than $5,000. The maximum penalty is 10 years in prison.

State officials say the damage to the buses is estimated at $16,000. The slashed tires, broken headlights and damaged radiators were discovered early Tuesday.

The men did not yet have attorneys.

Police chief fired for charge of misconduct

FORT LAWN, S.C. --- A South Carolina police chief has been fired after he was arrested on a misconduct charge from his previous job.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported Friday that the mayor of the Chester County town of Fort Lawn fired Police Chief Mike Revels.

Mayor Clif Ferguson says he thinks the arrest would be a distraction for Mr. Revels and he wouldn't be able to do his job.

State Law Enforcement Division agents on Wednesday accused Mr. Revels of stealing $100 of $200 from a victim during a 2007 investigation while he was police chief in Great Falls.

Mr. Revels has denied the charge, saying he turned in all the money from the victim.

Mr. Revels had been police chief in Fort Lawn since December.

Nowadays everyone is so uptight about crime that three HS seniors can't even stage a little prank without The Gestapo's overreacting. Too bad that they're not juveniles and Columbia County residents. Then Elmer Fudd would obligingly give them another second chance.

How does $16,000 damage to public property equal a "little prank"? Little pranks don't include intentional destruction of property.

$16k is a little prank?? Rubbish. These 3 men are a detriment to society and should be punished. If $16k is such a measly amount, Craig Spinks, then "pony up" and pay the tab for repairs and replacement of the damaged buses. Since you think these men are just having fun, why not let them have fun pulling pranks on your personal possessions and YOU pay for their "fun."

So the Chief was fired without being convicted of any thing? If this man was Chief of Police and had to steal $100.00, the Mayor of that town should be the one arrested for not paying him enough.
