The Girls Scouts of Historic Georgia will kick off their annual Traveling Troop program Monday.
"Traveling Troop was created as a way for Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts to participate in Girl Scout programing during the summer," said Lindsey Rivers, the communications specialist. "The idea was to take the Girl Scout programming to different places so girls in different areas could participate."
The program, geared toward girls ages 5-17, will offer free activities twice a week through July 29.
Some of the popular activities from past years will return this year. They include Dancing Divas Unite, in which an award-winning dance group gives a demonstration and teaches the girls dance moves; Where in the World, an orienteering activity; and a pool party.
Girls don't have to be Scouts or commit to being Scouts to participate. The program will show them what the organization has to offer, Ms. Rivers said.
"We're hoping to garner interest from girls who may not have been exposed to Girl Scouting before by showing them what we do and what we're about," she said. "So, hopefully, when the school year rolls around, they will be interested in joining our traditional troop."
An adult must accompany the girls at all times. For information about Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia or the Traveling Troop, call (706) 774-0505.
