Sheriff: SC man killed in drug deal shootout

GASTON, S.C. - Authorities say a Columbia man has been killed after a drug deal turned into a shootout.

Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers told The State of Columbia that the men met in a parking lot around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say 22-year-old Christopher Robinson and another man were making a drug deal when one of them decided to rob the other and the shooting began.

Coroner Donnie Porth says Robinson was shot once in the chest.

Summers says deputies have several leads and hope to arrest someone soon.

SC prisoner who left job at car wash recaptured

CHARLESTON, S.C. - A minimum-security South Carolina inmate who walked away from his job at a car wash has been caught at his mother's house in Charleston two days later.

Prison officials say 38-year-old Joseph Nelson surrendered peacefully around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Authorities say Nelson was working at the Cactus Car Wash in Charleston when he walked away Saturday evening.

Nelson was serving a five-year sentence for shoplifting and was scheduled to be released in January.

Officials say Nelson will be taken to a maximum-security prison and charged with felony escape, which carries an additional one to 15 years behind bars.

Search continues for teen swimmer at Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Authorities are still searching for a 16-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming at Myrtle Beach.

Capt. David Knipes of the Myrtle Beach Police Department said Monday that the whole department remains on the lookout. The teenager from Conway was about 50 yards out in the water Sunday when one of his friends heard him call for help before disappearing. Authorities declined to release the boy's name because he is a juvenile.

That incident came one day after a Sumter woman went under while vacationing in Myrtle Beach. Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that preliminary autopsy results on 40-year-old Annette Brunson indicate she drowned.
