3 teenagers injured after car runs off road
A one-vehicle wreck near Appling sent three teenagers to the hospital Saturday afternoon, with one of them in critical condition.
Tyler Epps, 16, of Lincolnton, was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics and is in critical condition, said Columbia County sheriff's Deputy Keith Warner. Tyler was riding in the back seat of the vehicle.
The wreck occurred about 2 p.m. on Ray Owens Road near North Columbia Elementary School.
Ashley Teeters, 16, of Martinez, was driving northbound when she lost control of her Mercury Sable going around a curve, Deputy Warner said.
The vehicle overturned several times and landed in a ditch.
Speed appears to have been a factor, Deputy Warner said.
Deputy Warner said that none of the teens were wearing seat-belts.
Charges are pending against the driver, he said.
Rain forces holiday event to be canceled
Rainy weather on Saturday forced the cancellation of Columbia County's Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration.
The free event in Evans was planned to feature the Army Signal Corps Band, the Augusta Children's Chorale and a fireworks display.
It will not be rescheduled, according to organizers.
Teenagers seldom make the right decisions, whether it's while driving or in some other every day activity. Many get away with irresponsible driving and many don't. It's up to parents to make the tough decisions that will help keep their children safe. Making sure they know the dangers and consequences of unsafe driving and being restrictive as to who they are allowed to ride with are both very important in my family. My condolences to the families of these injured teens.
Once again the words "not wearing their seat belts" is included in the story of a serious car wreck. At least there wasn't a fatality with this one. Please BUCKLE UP!
Once again, the focus shouldn't be the seat belts. Please, don't wreck.
The car that flipped into a ditch in front of Augusta Christian school and my then home in Matinez, (there's a commercial building there now), was full of teenagers, thankfully all wearing their seatbelts. They were rather groggy and had trouble getting their seatbelts off, but were thankful for them, because when I reached the car to help them out, the car was upside down and they would have been knocked all around inside or thrown outside the car when it flipped if they hadn't been belted in. With all the trees around them, the seat belts easily contributed to their survival. They were bruised and disorientated, but okay. Car was totaled.
Seat belts would have probably prevented any injuries here or there would have been very minor ones. They work. The vehicle did what it is supposed to do and that is create a protective shell around the passengers.
the report says 3 teens but list only 2,then later says they were ok what about the 3rd person?
The third Victim was Ian Mcgahee. He is alright suffering minor injuries. Ashley is doing better, she had oral surgery, and should be discharged by now. Pray for these teens, for i am a scared to drive, teen._kdad_
