One $1 tag means free Frosty till December

A dollar still goes a long way. Starting Monday, after customers buy a Frosty key tag for $1 at participating Wendy's restaurants, they can show that tag on subsequent visits and get a free Junior Frosty through Dec. 1.

Proceeds from the tags will benefit the Medical College of Georgia Children's Medical Center, the area's only children's hospital.

MCG Health Inc., a not-for-profit corporation, operates Medical College of Georgia Hospital, the Children's Medical Center, the Georgia Radiation Therapy Center and related outpatient facilities and services throughout the state.

Here are some highlights from The Pinch last week:

$5 Meal at Famous Dave's : Famous Dave's has a $5 lunch special weekdays.

Customers can receive a pork sandwich, choice of side and a drink from 11 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The restaurant is at 2821 Washington Road.

Firehouse Subs discounts : Firehouse Subs on Walton Way gives a 10 percent discount to hospital staffers and students at Paine College. The restaurant offers discounts to employees at the following hospitals:

- MCG (employees and students)

- University Hospital

- Veterans Affairs Medical Center

- Select Specialty Hospital Augusta

Students at Paine College receive a 10 percent discount on weekends. The restaurant is at 1527 Walton Way.

Double coupons : Fred's doubles coupons up to 70 cents every Saturday, according to a sales insert.

The discount retailer has three Augusta stores: 2416 Windsor Spring Road, 1511 North Leg and 2909 Washington Road. It has three other stores in the area: 401 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta; 5107 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown; and 2872 Tobacco Road, Hephzibah.

Hairstyles for less : Augusta Technical College's cosmetology program offers services to the public, including haircuts and coloring for men and women, starting at $5. Students are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to a school official.

No appointments are necessary. The Augusta campus of the college is at 3200 Augusta Tech Drive.

Why only Paine College students receiving a 10% discount? What about students at AU and Augusta Tech? Students at those schools are just as important as those attending PC...no sense of fairness at Firehouse Subs, that's for sure.

Some people r never satisfied. Should I be upset since Im not a student or hospital employee and I cant get the discount??? Do you want some cheese with your WINE. (shaking my head).

I always wondered why my dad as a police officer got a discount when ever we went out to eat and my mother the nurse never got discounts. She save lives! I always thought that was funny. Imagine the jokes...your dad gets shot and ya mama fixes him up.
